Klopp after LFC

I am not sure that I entirely like the idea of having Klopp take the year off and the coaching staff essentially run the show in the meantime. What happens if things don't go so well? Do we demand that Klopp returns early? Do we sack Lijnders and bring in someone else (who won't really be able to change anything, as they know they are only in the job for a few months)?

It would be a little bizarre for the players too, wouldn't it? I mean, who would they REALLY consider to be the boss? Especially if Klopp is in the background still being kept informed, but not actually seeing what is happening on a daily basis.

It all sounds little too messy to be honest.

If Lijnders (or whoever) from the coaching staff ends up being good enough to take over from Klopp then I would rather they just take over from Klopp properly when the time comes.

I don't think it's all that bizarre.

If it is someone like Lijnders who they know really well and must respect (seeing as they work with him closely every day) then why would they take the piss?

To an extent, the same goes for anyone you bring in. The key thing is that whoever you put in charge just keeps things running rather than trying to stamp his authority all over the club.

It sounds like all Klopp needs is taking a year off to recharge and spend some time with his loved ones. Don't think he has any reason to leave LFC at this point and he is certainly not someone who needs to jump from one club to another or is afraid of rebuilding a team he put together. Giving 1 year to Lijnders might be a slight risk, but it's a risk FSG should definitely take if that means we can keep Klopp for a long term. Give him a sabbatical every 7 years like they do in academia.

They'll have to recruit from within, who the hell from outside could live up to Klopp? They'd be on a hiding to nothing and the pressure unbearable. You'd either have someone trying their best to be him or someone with a massive ego undoing everything in six months. Look at manure since baconface left. Look at us since we stopped recruiting from within 30 years ago.

I don't know who it is as it's a few years off, but they should have been here a couple of years at least.

Kenny round 3? Or 4?
To me that wouldn't make sense. It should be someone who works with the players day in day out, who knows Klopp's tactics and system inside out and that the players know, like and respect. That's either Pep Linders or Peter Krawietz.

Bob Paisley, Joe Fagan and Kenny Dalglish had never managed before, but they were all very successful and it was all about succession rather than ego.

The worst case scenario is one of the coaching staff makes a balls of it. But then if they do when you go and get a big name manager they don't have klopp's legacy to haunt them from day 1. The best case is that this whole thing keeps going for a couple of decades

It’s just like covering for your manager when they fuck off on holiday.

If Lijnders or anyone else from within the existing backroom staff were to be considered for a temporary role whilst Klopp has a year off then we could let them manage the team in the domestic cups for a couple of years and see how they get on. It's not like Klopp gives a shit about the domestic cups anyway so we don't really have much to lose and he showed last season that he doesn't mind relinquishing control for the odd game here and there.
