Klopp confirms we're in (transfer) talk to buy players

Defoe is available on a free. If the wages are reasonably sensible, surely a one year contract would be a good option for us? We badly need goalscorers, and someone who'll sniff out a goal rather than rely on our often elaborate build-ups. We probably won't go out and buy more than one - hopefully - top class forward, so having Defoe as another option, and a sort of mentor to our youth forwards, would IMHO be a prudent short term move.

Jurgen Klopp admits he wants his transfer business done quickly this summer.

Liverpool were rapid in their work last year, with Gini Wijnaldum the final arrival on July 22 – three weeks before the Premier League season started.
Although there was an attempt to sign Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund later in the window, the Reds’ work in the market generally reflects Klopp’s belief of tying up as many deals as soon as possible to integrate the new signings into training.

And with the German coach admitting he has held talks with potential arrivals ahead of 2017/18 already, he is keen to have his squad in place ahead of the big kick-off on August 12.

When asked if it is important business is done early, Klopp said: “If you ask me as a private person, I would say as soon as possible.

“But I’m long enough in the business to know that’s only kind of a dream. We will see when we are finished, but we will tell you when we are finished.

“It’s probably really likely that we will have to do a lot of things during our holiday but that’s how it is, maybe in the pre-season, I don’t know. We have to see.

“That depends on who you can get and when. Different things can happen. That’s how it is, and we have to react.”
Liverpool are in a battle for the top four, knowing two wins from their final two games confirms Champions League qualification.

Whether they reach Europe’s premier competition or not is likely to shape their summer, with hopes of signing Virgil van Dijk and Naby Keita dependent on qualifying for the tournament.

I got lambasted for suggesting him in Jan, I'd have had Defoe here any year in the last 10

We can surely do better then Defoe. He'll end up at Bournemouth I reckon.

Depends what you mean by doing better. Doing better than making him our main attacking signing? Obviously. But in terms of a free transfer, getting an experienced international for a year to add to the squad and come off the bench in arid games like last week's? I'm not sure why you'd dismiss that.

I agree. He gets goals. For free its a decent squad option. We will have Europe to consider.

I do hope thats true about sorting signings out early.
Our season will start early if we make top 4 and pre qualifying qualifyers.

Watching Leipzig - Bayern (4-2) and Keita is boss. Werner and Forsberg have been excellent aswell.

I'd have Defoe as a backup and sub option. Better than many of the players we've thrown out there in recent years. He scores, not much else, but games are won by goals.

He probably won't be ready to figure for the first team before November.
Poor sod. I'm still not sure about him in terms of quality but his energy level and fighting mentality, something we severely lack, should really help us in games next season though.

I view him a bit like Veggard Heggem.

Might be dead good but we probably wont see much of it.
