Assuming we don't make any more signings, (even though we obviously will) and assuming our squad remains the same as it is now, keeping Aquilani and including the signing of Adam, etc. What would be your preferred line up for our first game of the season against Sunderland?
This should be interesting to see how people can fit in our plethora of midfielders.

Henderson and Adam dont improve the first team.
Good bench though - Skrtel, Aquilani, Carroll, Adam, Henderson, Cole.

As good as he has been, Oncy, I'd keep the same team but drop Meireles for Adam and I'd also move Suarez out to the left, drop Maxi and put Carroll up top.

No Carroll starting you lunatic?

I'd have this.
Reina

Johnson Agger Carragher Aurelio

Adam Meireles

Gerrard

Kuyt Suarez

Carroll

BENCH: Skrtel, Henderson, Kelly, Lucas, Cole, Aquilani, Maxi (or Doni)

We're pretty short on strikers when I see it like this.

We'd get raped with Adam and Meireles in the middle.

What's our best eleven, I'll start typing it out, hold on I'm at the defenders and already I've got too many players in here, shit I HAVE to include Agger, I know I'll do a bench not to offend or forget anyone, right what about the midfield shit we've got 400 of them, I know I'll do best and second best eleven, actually fuck that lets go for a home and away elevn, better still I'll out in the time we make subsititutions, oh no Stevie G's coming back from injury though so he might make the team, hope he stays injured, let's stick in a few ///'s actually, that way it'll cover my ass for the right wing cos Henderson/Kuyt/Glenjo/Meireles/ can go there depending on y'now stuff, its not working now I look at it in preview mode, I'll just pose the question instead and let others work it out.

I think this will be the midfielders/strikers starting against Sunderland:

Spearing
Gerrard Adam Ming/Downing (if signed?)
Kuyt Carroll

Not necessarily the best lineup but I think Mata (if signed?), Henderson, Suarez and Lucas will be on the bench - they'd still be in pre-season conditioning mode as they'd have been on vacation after the Euro U-21 / Copa America tournaments and missed large parts of the pre-season program.

Anyway, there's an international before the season opener, so maybe a few of Carroll, Ming, Downing and maybe Gerrard (if picked) will come back crocked. Aquilani doesn't make the bench as he dislocates a shoulder while putting on the Italian shirt.

I think he's just disappointed that he's had to reply to a thread without once mentioning the fact that he plays in the lower divisions of Australian "soccer".

As much width as Barca Vlad and I think they'd do well in the EPL. Obviously it's not quite as strong as Barca's team but it'sstill good enough for a tilt at a top 3 place. In an ideal world we either sign a top wide player, or we could sign a top attac-minded left back and have him and Glenjo (on the right) providing the width.

A team with Gerrard on DM is not significantly better than a team with Lucas. Gerrard is by no means a DM. You remember the time when England played with Lampard in an advanced role and Stevie behind him? It didn't work out.

Agger is a crock and will never ever play more than 20 games a season. We can't rely on him.

Your team has no width (as Vlad already said). And as it stands right now Kenny is after wingers, so I guess we'll play natural wingers there, not CMs out of their position. It would certainly suit Carroll.

We are all basing our teams on current available players, obviously if Kenny signs us a top wide player I'd change my team/formation to suit.

Gerrard: strong in the tackle, good header of the ball, very active, reads the game very well, can play great passes from deep - what have I missed? Of course he can play DM and it makes perfect sense as he gets older.

Barry, Gerrard, Lampard, Carrick, perm any 2 from those 4 and you have an ineffective England CM - they don't work as partnerships and especially under poor management but it's not due to the quality of the players (except in Barry's case).

It's at home. We don't need Lucas in the team.

The team can revert to a 4-4-2 without the ball. Agger filling in at LB and Glenjo at RB. Kuyt moves back out wide and Suarez steps up to hit them on the counter!
BOOM!

Even basing on currently available players I'd rather play Maxi on the left wing.

My point regarding Gerrard is that I don't think he's disciplined enough to play at DM. He's used to roam around the midfield knowing players behind him are doing the dirty work. The abilities may be there but still he's by no means a DM in my book.

Wow, I don't get that at all, Maxi Rodriguez plays 2 good games at the end of last season and all of a sudden you choose to forget the multitude of anonymous performances he has put in for us in his 2 seasons here?

I've made my point about SG, he has ALL the attributes to play DM and it's where I'd play him next season but I can't prove to you he has the discipline to do it.
