Our subs bench looks so much better in most of these teams, though the first team, while improved doesn't really get the juices flowing for me.

I'd you look back on ever match thread last season the crux if everyone's gripe was with how shit the bench was. we've arrested that and dint have a face rubbing spastic at the helm.

My point is we did really well against the so called top four and pretenders (with exception of spurs). Now with the strong bench we have we should do better against the lesser teams that have caused us trouble in the past with these new and improved options to work with. In theory :/

My point was exactly what it was, it wasn't some implied criticism. It wasn't said with great disappointment.
We've got time as well.
I wouldn't mind signing a really good player though. I don't really look back over the last many years and think, "remember that player that really fit in well and gave the team a good shape."

Sadly, I don't think Mata will come to us. But we still have options in the attacking third. If we play 4-4-2, I'd go with Downing and Henderson (maybe even Gerrard for balance) on the wings and two of Suarez/Carroll/Kuyt upfront. If we play 4-2-3-1 (or some variation) it'd be three of Suarez/Kuyt/Gerrard/Downing behind the main striker Carroll (or move Suarez/Kuyt upfront if Carroll isn't available). All that without mentioning Meireles, Maxi and Aquaman as options. TBH, I'm bit more concerned about our defence. I hope Carra, Agger and Skrtel have a good season, and stay injury-free as much as possible.
