Haven't read the thread, but could this be potential new owners making the decision, and already have someone lined up to replace Rafa? Even though Hicks has said it will take a long time to sell the club?
Given the owners' track record in running the club, are you confident in them getting a league challenging manager in? (remember Klinnsman-gate?)
Anyone remember Maradonna-gate?

I doubt there is new owners in the pipeline. If there are new owners and they are in negotiations far enough down the process then we would have heard about it. And if they hold enough sway to sack Benitez then why not just announce the potential takeover?

I imagine we've sacked Benitez and that's it. And in fact I'd be surprised if we appointed a new manager full time. Any prospective new owners would probably like to work from a clean slate and bring their own man in. I'd imagine we'll see Dalglish or Lee as interim manager until the club is sold. Whenever that day is.

Well given that it costs 16million to sack him, it could make sense. Why would the current owners sack Rafa, then leave the new manager with maybe even less money to spend? Just keep him if that was the case.

I don't believe this small payout to get Rafa to leave, as I think he would stay had he been given the chance. I'm gonna go with new owners.

They'll be a new manager in place before the season starts.

If we go into the season with Dalglish in charge then we're no fucking different to the Newcastle fans with Keegan.

In fact: it's worse.

They are negotiating a £3-4m payout as they cant even sack him right! Pay him every penny.

Well if they do it on the QT they can save £12m at a stroke, and avoid getting their hands soiled so KK, and Rebel will not hate them forever for getting shut of Rafa

Yes.

I laughed a lot.

Got shut pretty quickly as I recall.

Nah.

I think we've sacked him and decided to cut our losses fearing another season like the last, thus making the club a less attractive proposition.

Like I said, why sack him if the new owners insisting on it are only a possibility? Which they would be at this point since we've heard nothing and they wouldn't be far along in the process if they were showing an interest.

I really hope this IS just a change of managers, with regards to whats happening on the pitch and not anything else. If it is then im okay with Rafa leaving. If its just a case of getting him out of the way so the books can be balanced with the boardroom having easier access to offloading top players then it truly is a sad sad day!

Heres hoping its the start of rebuilding the shambles of what we've become!

It would from a footballing point of view, mate.

It would be over sentimental bollocks, and that's something we can ill-afford at the moment.

What are the chances of new owners, serious contenders, being entertained and nothing leaking ?

Apart from the Hong Kong gambling geezer, I've heard nowt.

Quick question:

What if Rafa says no to the 3M offer?

We probably buy Danny Wilson.

Then this thread becomes an historical folly.

I wasn't aware there were so many people who seemingly put Rafa higher than the club. It's a surprise.

Slugmonster, that is one depressing scenario!

Exactly.

Kopking, would you rather Benitez got his full whack compensation than the club saving the money?

Over-sentimental bollocks it may be but, Kenny Dalglish, manager>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>You know the rest.

Dalglish would be awesome hes still a canny bastard and the players love him. Hes not been living under a rock for the last 10 years.

Dalglish is a born winner. It will never happen like. More likely be Sammy as caretaker boss untill the new manager can be found. Christ.

Hanging on somewhere he is not wanted by the management, some very senior players (by all accounts) and an increasing number of fans. I don't think it's an option.

I think they would stump up more than the 3m if he declines, as they run the risk he doesn't act professionally going forward and lose them value on their investment.

Personally, if he goes, and it doesn't make a difference to their spending on the club, I hope Rafa rinses the btrds for every penny he can.

If it was a case of stay in a job where I new I wasn't wanted by those above me and below me, I'd take the money now and have the rest later, but no way would I stay working in that kind of environment.

If I'm perfectly honest, I've never understood situations where people can be shit at their jobs, get the sack, and then walk out with a massive payoff. If I was shit at my job and got the sack, I'd be shown the door and that's it - maybe some gardening leave if I was lucky
