DAVID VILLA has dedicated his part in Barcelona’s memorable Champions League triumph to the family of Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina.
Villa netted a sumptuous 25-yard curling effort to seal the Catalans’ 3-1 win over Manchester United in the European Cup final at Wembley on Saturday.
Barça’s triumph was their fourth in the final and prevented United moving to within one of Liverpool’s total of five European Cups, with the Old Trafford outfit having already earlier this month set a new record of 19 English top flight titles.
And Villa has dedicated the win to the two daughters of close friend Reina, whose wife Yolanda gave birth to their first son last week.
“It is the reward for all work and we are very happy to have achieved this in a stadium as important as this,” said Villa.
“It was a very important title for the club and now it's ours.
"I dedicate it to all my family, my daughters and also Pepe Reina’s, who are like my nieces.
"If you know us, you know that we never relax.
"We have ambition, we have potential and very hungry for titles.
“We could not waste this opportunity. My goal came at a good time and gave us peace of mind.”
