How is it that Lucas can look so effective in that position but Henderson doesn't?
For me it's all about discipline and anticipation. Lucas is actually quick to get on opponents back and also cover for his teammates, something Henderson rarely does. The problem with Lucas is that he doesn't have the pace to recover if he misses a challenge.
Another thing is that Lucas is quick to start attacks. He reads the game so much better Henderson. The first thing he does when he recovers a ball is look to Coutinho or another one of our midfielders. Henderson would most likely look for sideways pass.
Henderson is also lacking in the aerial department.
I'm not saying that Lucas is the answer, but Henderson sure isn't.
We need a new DM.

I 'love' (read "find it hilarious") when Lucas runs straight past his intended victim (for the tackle) just as the ball goes the other way. Happened once today, he steamed in (on Barkley ?) and runs right past the player who pings a pass in the other direction. 😀

Exactly what I meant. That's his biggest flaw. Once someone has gone past him, he just can't recover.
He played well today and Klopp was certainly justified in selected him. I knew he wouldn't let us down whilst playing DM in a derby match. It's perfect for him.
I certainly dont love him, though. I still hope he replace him with someone much better.

Henderson has been very good as the nr 6. Lets not kid ourselves after one good game here. Lucas has been average all season.
Lucas with all his limitations did a better defensive job today than Henderson has ever done in the "6" role.

Comparing Lucas and Henderson is like comparing the taste of lard or Vaseline- They are both pretty indifferent.

Let's not forget to he's had fuck all games in the middle this season mostly starting and playing well at CB.
For all the hate he's actually having a decent season.
Obviously we need better to challenge but as a squad player I've no issues with our longest serving player hanging around.

We were definitely missing a midfield general today. Whenever we managed to get the ball into the final third, Coutinho, Firmino and Mané pissed all over Everton. The difficulty was getting the ball up there. Henderson can do the job, although not brilliantly. I can't really see Stewart doing it. We need to invest in the summer transfer window I think.
Nope, he's had some good games, but he's just not the right player for the DM position like I've said all season.
Lucas isn't either but when he plays well we get a small sample of how it is having a real DM in that position.
I see a stability in our midfield that I rarely see with Henderson playing there.
I think an important factor was Can playing alongside him. He did most of the leg work which meant that Lucas could play to his strengths. He never really had players running at him during the game. Did we miss Henderson today? I don't think so.
