Guardian saying we are in talks to send him home early. So bizarre how he got frozen out of the team last year, he started off looking really quite promising.

Yeah I thought that too. He wasn't shit so at least that was something.....

Would have liked to have seen him get more game time last season.

Anyone but Johnson.

I thought he looked very promising to be honest. He's better than that other chump at the opposite side whom we splashed out 12m on.

I thought his defending was shite and was incredibly meh when joining the attack. Preferred Johnson.
Clyne will be first choice, with the new lad we bought, and Wisdom as cover. As well as Flannagan should he recover.

You could tell he didn't fit into Rodgers plans pretty early on when he showed he was able to defend.
Really?
I just recall the two most common outcomes when he faced an attacker was
a. A foul
b. Left for dead

Or was he good in his positioning when we were deeper in our own half or something?

Yep, another cracking decision by Rogers after a promising start. Won't get many games now though with Clyne signed

I will remember him mainly for getting destroyed by Enner Valencia at West Ham and having to be taken off after 20 minutes. He did have some decent games though and he is young. Probably turn out decent somewhere but it seems like it won't be with us.

This perfectly exemplifies the attitude to defending at Liverpool.

A 20 year old kid who can clearly play, can defend, and can cope in the premier league. But who evidently needs to be coached and developed. All the attributes are there - he was sharp, could defend, seemed to take instructions on the pitch, and was very comfortable with the ball at feet.

Work with him, teach him, give him experience, and develop his existing defensive abilities.

Nope. Fucked off back to Spain. Not because he couldn't play, but because there's no one at the club with the ability to teach him.

Yep, pretty depressing. Clyne and Manquillo would have been a great one two for our right back position, now we have a youth centre back who can do a job at right back as our back up, great.

Yep. Of course, Brendan could, but, as he always points out, he hardly ever gets the time to coach because of all those tiresome matches that keep getting in the way. If only we didn't have to play any games, he's be out there like a flash, being a coaching genius.

His high point was winning us the penalty in injury time in the Champions League home game against the Bulgarians when the goalie miskicked and he got a foot in first. He had no right to be in that position but chased down a hopeless cause and it won us the game just after we had let them equalise.

Always looked to be playing within himself on orders going forward but I thought he was decent and as others have said, he was far better than the headless chicken on the other side who is our only left back option

No he wasn't, he was pretty decent.

Iit was pretty much the flaw in his game and we've played more or less with wing backs throughout the last couple of seasons, but Manquillo was more of an out and out fullback. I liked him, he could defend as said, he didn't dive in, he read the game and held the player up until the challenge was there to be made. Going forward though he offered nothing.

He was our second best fullback last season after Ibe. Strange decision. I'd have sent Moreno back before him.

He was very Steve Finnan going forward, nothing glamorous, but he was quietly effective. He wasn't sensational, don't get me wrong, but he wasn't awful as suggested.

I like Manquillo. He was targeted the odd time by the opposition but he knew how to defend and had a lovely touch. I was at the first game of the season last year and Gerrard used him as his outlet time and time again. I thought we had a new first team RB on our hands. Frustrating.

I think there was a fairly serious issue with his fitness.
A fair few times he was taken off around the 70th minute mark absolutely panting.
Maybe that's where the issue lies regarding applying himself in training.
