Now I love the stuff, and I also love chocolate, the two together, never I thought. Yuk Yuk Yuk.... Something savoury with something sweet... Never...
Long behold...
Now this Christmas morning I unwrapped the above specimen, certainly takes some getting used too, I have to say. Soon as you open the packet it totally wreaks of the fantastic smell of marmite... mmm I thought... I love that smell... The first thing you think is the sheer greatness and satisfaction of having Marmite on Toast together with a nice Cup of Coffee when you get up in the morning... Nothing beats it.
But then this is chocolate... who was the nutter who thought of that idea!!? It completely breaks the law of physics/sense/logic when it comes to having marmite.. So off I pop a bit into my mouth, feeling somewhat dubious about the whole thing, like some kid who has been felt hard done by, after being handed the liquorice bits out of the midget gems..
After a slow chew and a bit of a melt of the chocolate in my mouth, I am still struggling to come to terms with the 'crazy idea' of this chocolate, all I can think about is toast and a hot cup of coffee.
However once you get over the stumbling block of coming to terms of what it is, It's bloody lovely, it even gives the crackin marmite after-taste you get with Marmite on toast. Who would think something savoury with something sweet would work..
Will it be a substitute for marmite on toast ?? Never... not even remotely possible..
Am I going to enjoy offering a piece of this 'special chocolate' to the unsuspecting marmite hater?? You bet I am..
