Teams seem to build fitness a little more slowly as football has moved to being a squad based marathon. It doesn't seem like teams want peak fitness beginning of the season, they just want to get through. This is part of the enshittification of football where there are more full bore matches in the wrong sense and fewer in the right sense.

Salah absolutely needs his minutes managed. That's just common sense. He's offering fuck all the vast majority of the time. We want to get every bit out of his one purple patch so that we can convince ourselves it's worth it. Part of that is not playing him.

The problem of course is our two most senior, crucial players in VVD and Salah have no real replacement. Both were played a fuck ton last year.

I used to have a glaswegian roofer mate who was a Celtic fan and I picked it up from him. 30 years later I took it out & dusted it down to wind up my boy with "come on the huns" when he is engrossed in an old firm match.
