Match week 38: Other games

Villa were absolutely robbed by the ref.
I hope they sue the PGMOL or something. They've cost the club millions and it was a good goal. This was what VAR was supposed to prevent. FFS!

Edit: it was ref who blew the whistle so VAR couldn't do anything.

All the ref had to do was let ball cross the line before blowing the whistle. VAR never got a chance to review.

Disappointed Forest and Villa couldn't claim those last two CL slots. FFS 3 of the CL contenders lost today !

On the other hand - surely there is no way Ange keeps his job, despite a trophy win and all the injuries. Just horrendous.

That no-goal at old toilet has just cost Villa $100m+... Unbelievable fuck-up by the ref, even by this season's 'standards'.

i don’t understand how this nonsense repeatedly happens. was there something special about this bit of play that meant it was stopped immediately rather than letting the ball hit the net then review?

i’m sure everyone associated with villa is furious

No ref fucked up. But because the whistle went (haven't seen it, but that's what I've read). It couldn't be over turned.

Ref more at fault than VAR in this instance.

You could argue he was trying to protect the goal keeper..but it's a piss weak argument.

i don’t think that argument can even be made, when you see it the ball has been taken away from the keeper before the whistle is blown.

insanity that he couldn’t wait a second but is he a ref recently promoted from a division without VAR or something? i can certainly understand a muscle memory type thing to blow the whistle instantly.

on the plus side, we won the league

Like I said. Piss weak.

The ref apparently has 3 years of premier league experience.

Mad that nearly half the league will be in Europe next season.

Should mean fatigue isn’t as big an issue for us. Half the time after a CL we’ll be playing someone else who’s played in Europe.

6 in the CL is nuts when you think about it.

I don't understand why VAR can't intervene if the whistle has already gone. Well, I do, but not in this instance, where it clearly made no difference to the subsequent play. I don't know why they can never use a bit of common sense. It's like with the goal we had disallowed at Spurs. They all realised they'd made a colossal error but because the game had restarted about 3 seconds earlier then HEAVEN FORBID they should call it back to correct the mistake, oh no that would be CRAZY!

if you give them any rope they’re going to trip themselves up with it, can you imagine the mess they’d eventuate find themselves in if they could overrule the whistle too

I don't disagree, but that doesn't exactly let them off the hook. If we were dealing with intelligent and competent people then all you'd really need is an overriding principle that making the most just decision should take priority over ideal procedure.

Watching MotD and I think they’ve just shown Moyes as being manager of West Ham

haha yes ideally we want the right decision but i’m just laughing at the thought of how long it would take them to get there.

Bad ref decision but they’ve dropped so many needless points this season. Don’t leave yourself in this situation on the last day of the season lads

Although I'm a tad disappointed that Forest and Villa didn't make it in place of Newcastle and Chelsea, as far as us repeating in the PL goes its a better result, as both of those are likely to be Top 4 contenders again next season so the more and tougher midweek matches they have the better.

Gonna destroy Saturday footie
Well Sky keep saying that they have 215 live PL matches next season which is 80% of all televised matches. That means there will be about 270 televised matches, which averages out at just over 7 per match week (puke), so only three Saturday afternoon matches anyway
