So, whats he done to Roy then? Can't get a game to save his life, and had to see the likes of Eccelstone getting on before him.

29 years old, Serbian international, top scorer in the Belgian league and winner of the waffle award or whatever it's called.

Yesterdays game was crying out for someone who could show a bit of ambition. And playing Jova upfront with Torres or out left would have been a much better call at either half time or when Maxi went off.

I'm baffled by some of Roys subs to say the least.
 
The only one that was debatable really was Poulsen and even that allowed Gerrard to push forward more (and he nearly got the winner), whatever they do it'll get over analysed.

When we were throwing shite on off the bench, people were crying out for Rafa (and Houllier) to throw a kid on and see what they could do, now he's doing that it's the opposite, he should be putting on some experience.
 
Mate, I'm all for putting on the youngsters. But let's be honest, what can Eccelstone offer?

Shelvey and Kelly were good choices. But Eccelstone won't be anywere near the first team in the future.

It's a fine line between to much youth and to much experience. When our right side has an average of 19 years, then maybe a more experienced proven goalscorer should be on the opposite?
 
I'm not big on Ecclestone, and I don't really know the deal with Jova, other than he's done little so far when he has played. I dunno, the squad is shite really and they're all much of a muchness, looking at the bench there's no one really that looks like they could change a game for us.

He's not looked great so far, but given that we've spent a lot of the time playing in our own half... very few attackers have.

It'd be interesting to see him up front. I suspect he doesn't have a brilliant future either way, but it'd be nice to have the full picture.

The Shelvey sub so early on looked a blatantly wrong decision in hindsight as he was the main culprit in loosing possession, hence we never really got going in the second half.

It actually helped marginally when Poulsen was introduced and I don't think Eccleston was bad either. Actually I was pleased to see him on the pitch ahead of Jova whom I've got very little faith in.

Roy's main problem as a tactician for me is that he's not used to going for the three points away from home and at that surely shone through last night. After a bright and positive start we suddenly sat back and the gap between our lines made it difficult for everyone outthere to maintain possession. It's highly annoying to witness yet another Liverpool manager seemingly affraid of going for the full monty - last night after such an inspirational start we should've pushed for a second and the game had been well over.

This. The time to judge him will be when he's had a fair go in the position he mostly played in before coming to us.

I'm not saying there isn't some truth in this but we've got to remember that the staff and manager sees him on a daily basis at Melwood. I'm simply doubting whether he's actually good enough.
 
I did think he'd have come along better though.

He has a decent first touch, and he is pacy.

We all expected another snail.
 
Fair points, both you fellas. I liked the look of him in patches at the World Cup, but I accept that the Prem is a different kettle of fish. Time will tell.

Avvy, he's also got excellent upper body strength and can bust his way through a tackle. That's one reason why I'd like to see him tried up front, running interference for Torres.

So by the same token I assume that you would blame Benitez for signing Cisse and selling Owen then?
 
I don't care who signed him as we all know why we've made these Lotto-signings of late anyways.

I thought Jova showed glimpses of promise early on, against Arsenal et al. After that display against Northampton amongst others though, it's pretty obvious why he isnt playing.
 
I think he has no footballing brain, he can't pick out a pass, everytime he's had a glimpse on goal: he's bottled it, he runs around aimlessly so he's teammates don't know what to expect of him. He's awful, I honestly think he's the worst player we have.

They were more than glimpses (the fans stood to applaud him) and one has to ask oneself why the drop-off in form since. I reckon it has a lot to do with him being picked at LM when he was more used to playing up front before, which is a pity IMO, especially when we've been crying out for a stand-in for Torres.
 
He's shit. That's what you get when you sign 29 year old free transfers from a second rate league who have done nothing in their career.
