Momo’s POTS thread 2025/26

We have completed the first batch of fixtures of the season which means it is time for me to start the Player of the Season thread.

For the newbies, I start a Man of the Match thread following each game where you select your top three for the game. The player you select first place is awarded 5 points, second 3 points and finally 1 for third place. There is no clean sheet bonus for the keeper so don’t bother moaning @Frogfish, my decision is final! Once I’ve tallied up all the votes the top 3 are awarded points for Player of the Season. Same scoring system applies. A slight change for this season. In the case of a tie in MOTM, the player with most 1st places gets given MOTM. Should they be tied on all votes (1st/2nd/3rd) only then I will split points.

Last year’s results were Salah, Gravenberch and Diaz.

After the first three fixtures we have 6 players off the mark in POTS. Szoboszlai and Ekitike have got off to a flyer and lead the pack so far. Here’s the table.

Here’s the update following Burnley. Slobby remains the front runner, and I don’t think anyone could disagree he’s been our best player so far.

Maybe too late now, but I was wondering about having to vote for three each game. Sometimes there isn't a clear second or third choice and maybe it is more accurate to only vote for players deserving of points. Does your system allow for voting for just a number one and not others?

I think you should keep a record, each match, of who voted 1,2,3 exactly the same as the final result. At the end of the season you can give a prize (a Casio watch?) to whoever gets the most.

I record it at individual poster level. Pulling that level of detail shouldn’t be too difficult. I’m sure I can ask AI to scrape that data for me.

Another fantastic performance from Gravenberch brings him closer to Szoboszlai. Salah enters the charts.

Our best players this season according to Whoscored and Fotmob:

Madness, no way Gakpo is our second best player and Szobo shouldn't be that low.

This one looks a bit better, but still a bit off regarding Gakpo and Szobo mainly.

Szobo is the one that's off most on that list. Alisson is a little low, and Gakpo a little high, but outside of that, it seems fairly right.

That's cos those are probably based on stats not actually watching games. Like the "sofascore ratings" which are just another social media rage bait at this point

I’ve made an executive decision to award bonus points to a player who gets a clean sweep. That is everyone’s 1st place pick. The player who completes that achievement gets an additional 3 points.

These past two games, we have had 2 players gain that accolade with Gravenberch and Chiesa. We only had 1 last season and that was also Gravenberch.

Here’s the latest table.

3 points seems valid

Alisson with consecutive MOTM performances pulls him up the list. Ekitike closes the gap to Szoboszlai. Gravenberch leading the way much like the start of last season.

Going into the international break, Gravenberch and Szoboszlai remain the front runners for POTS.

There’s been a slight reset in the scores due to a small error in my spreadsheet. I’ve fixed it now so things should be adjusted.

Szoboszlai is running away with it. Ekitike best of the new guys.
