Every shot that Coutinho takes (even from last season), he "pulls" the ball and ends up not hitting the target to the keepers' right.
Every. Single. Shot.
He could start by aiming for the keepers left post. At least get the ball on target.

True. Someone needs to pull him aside and work on his shooting technique. Either that or it is nerves tightening him up.

i guess its a risk of the way we play or something but we always seem to have midfielders caught in possession like that .

i remember seeing him taking shots in pre match warm up one time, he hit every one with the inside of his foot and they were all brilliant shots, then as soon as he hears the whistle he just starts putting his laces through it, no idea why but its really annoying

Sturridge really needs to work on both his hold up and link up play. When he needs to release the ball early he's either too greedy or taking an extra touch before playing it. And when he needs to hold it up, he gets knocked off it too easily.

The link up play is where we'll be missing Luis more than anything. Sturridge might get a lot of goals for himself with his selfish play, but the team as a whole will suffer because of it. Right now, he's reminding me of Torres (the LFC version). A top forward, but an average player.

Yeah i was just going to say similar , there is something about Sturridge that has been annoying me for a few months now , he does seem to be getting cockier and cockier , strolling around and only getting involved when his team have possession and then too often making the wrong decision when he gets it .

Great save by Jones.

Ibe on the counter after a nice ball from Allen. Allen gets on the end but deflected out. Corner not given.

Game over. Like dry paint.

WHEN ARE YA GONNA BELIEVE, WHEN ARE YA GONNA BELIEVE US, WHEN ARE YA GONNA BELIEVE USSSSSSSS, WERE GONNA WIN THE CUP, WERE GONNA WIN THE CUP!!!

Y'see I don't mind the strolling around bit. It might be a directive from Brendan to conserve his energy (as opposed to be doing doggy runs closing down CBs). But when he is in possession of the ball, he really needs to be making better decisions for the team. He seems to play for himself at times.

Something missing about that team of ours. Really something is missing (Suaaa.....NO DON'T say it you Moron !!!!)

I'm in complete agreement.

There's something about him that worries me - that incredulous look on his face when he gets easily pushed off the ball, goes down and just sits there, rather than gets on with it.

That feeling that he's more interested in doing that silly fucking dance than anything else.

Good player - but he needs to mature this season.

My biggest fear is that, with defenders no longer shutting themselves over Suarez, they'll focus on closing Sturridge down more - so he'll have to fucking work for it this season - he needs to be up for it.

he's a diva alright . Even when he came off today in a friendly he had a mad pout on him . I'm pretty sure Brendan has had a word in the past , hopefully he does the same again if needed .

or maybe not ...

Rodgers also had praise for Daniel Sturridge, saying he had noticed a positive change in him since his return from the World Cup.
“I’ve seen the difference in Dan (Sturridge) since he came back from the World Cup. He’s ready to take on the mantle.”

Huh?

Is this based on the friendlies so far this year? Because I think Sturridge has been very good in his hold up play for his entire LFC career. Especially considering his reputation as a selfish player. I think you are really underestimating how hard he works in that part of the game. There were a couple of games last year (can't remember off hand which ones) where I couldn't believe how hard Sturridge was working to come back and get the ball and then ward off defenders to get everyone involved.

I mean, I even thought his hold up play was good with pissing poor England at the World Cup!

Would like to see us loan him out somewhere, probably Serie A. I think he could be very good in a season's time.

He has 2 years left on his contract. Sending him on a year's loan is pretty much like giving him away for free / a pittance at the end of it (similar situation as Suso now though the youngster seems to want to extend and stay now). I think we can keep him around for the first half of the season and further assess in January if we should extend his contract, sell him, or loan him out (which would then most likely lead to an eventual cheap move or free agency departure a season later).

I think a lot might depend on whether Ilori goes on loan again. If he does, then either Coates or Toure will be the 4th CB, assuming Agger leaves. In which case, I'd prefer Coates as he's still young and has room for improvement while Toure is clearly only going to decline. I think January will also be the time when we assess Skrtel's situation and decide if he gets a new contract, as he'll be 30 then and entering the final 18 months of his current contract.

Kelly looked much better though, he could be a solid option to be relied upon this season.

I haven't been impressed by him in the pre-season to be honest; he seems to have lost whatever lateral speed he had so he can't really shift himself quickly enough when his man shimmies and goes either side of him. Considering he's trying to salvage his LFC career and has had a good rest in the off-season, I expected him to come back playing even harder to get into the team, but I don't see any improvement. If we enter the new season with Johnson / Flanagan / Kelly as the rotation at RB, I'd be dismayed. I like Flanagan, but the other two are dodgy and I think we ought to have a better rotation than that.

I thought he underwhelmed up to this point, but looked good in this match. He might finally have gotten enough minutes to turn a corner, or maybe realized that there was a first team spot up for grabs with Johnson being terrible.
