I have no qualms about the goal whatsoever. It was a new phase of play or whatever it's called as soon as Mings had the ball.

City have gotten their act together. United have been spawning wins and pens for over a year now. We look absolutely devoid of energy, confidence and ideas at the moment, then there's the league/refs seemingly conspiring against us. It's done.

We have to play Spurs, City, Leicester and Everton in the next 4 weeks. And our current form is dogshit, unless something changes dramatically in the next 7 days we are not winning the title.

More than 50% of the season yet to play, and about 7 teams within 5 points of each other. Anything could happen.

Don't care about City or United or whoever. If we get our act together, and focus on going on a winning streak, we'll be fine.

The issue of course is the whole fucked up season, not just with injuries, but the cloud of Covid still hanging and no crowds.

There's a good chance we don't win it, but to say it is over based on the last few weeks form is ridiculous.

After the 7-0 win at Palace, someone posted a post in the other forum meltdown thread from a fumer stating that Liverpool were on a different plane and would walkaway with the title, while they were relegated to scrapping for a top 4 place ... and how we all laughed.

So the boot is now on the other foot, and many posts on here would grace an "Other Forum Meltdown Watch" on Bluefume.

The complete inability to stand back and see a bigger picture, rather than the microscopic focus of very recent form, never ceases to amaze me. Things do and will change - there are lots of twits in this one yet, and we are still very much in it

I don’t disagree, and I said probably not definitely. Not winning against Burnley will see us 6-7 points behind City. That’s a pretty decent gap to close given our injury situation. Form is temporary as we all know, but this years title challenge has a lot more factors to it than usual for us. If we are to have a chance we need to stay as closely as possible to City. I’m still not convinced our makeshift defense can see us stay away from the odd slip up. We’re also not buying a centre back.

So, to clarify, before Macca throws his slippers and pipe at us. It’s not over, and it’s a very unusual season for every team. But closing a gap of 7 points to City could easily become to big of a challenge with our situation.
Thats just reality.

Let’s hope we win today, and then take it from there. One game at a time.

This is the first time in a while that we haven't had our own way and have hit a rough patch - we'll make it through. Whether we get our act together soon enough to stay challenging in another question - City look to have finally nailed their defence (at the 12th transfer of asking) but are definitely catchable. If we win tonight we get another step closer to having key players return.

It is also worrying that United keep finding a way to win - but it can't be sustainable.

Nah. It was the wrong decision.

This was given offside last night between Juve and Napoli:

And rightly so.

The rule around "receiving the ball from an opponent who deliberately plays the ball" is for situations where a player PASSES the ball to an opponent, not miscontrols it or is tackled. See Gerrard's errors here:

All 3 goals, the receiving players (Henry, Zidane and Drogba) were in offside positions, but Gerrard deliberately played the ball to them. He was NOT tackled. The PL have attempted to cover their arses with this one, as it so bad. They should have held their hands up.

In that case how long is the guy offside for?
When is the next phase of play?

Another example. That player is offside until the defender makes a pass or another teammate (who was onside) tackles him.
This is what the rule says though:

A PGMOL statement read: "In the 79th minute of Manchester City vs. Aston Villa, Bernardo Silva scored for Manchester City. In the build-up to the goal, Rodri was initially standing in an offside position as the ball was played upfield.
"Tyrone Mings deliberately played the ball, controlling it on his chest. As soon as Mings deliberately played the ball the following Law applies:
"'A player in an offside position receiving the ball from an opponent who deliberately plays the ball, including by deliberate handball, is not considered to have gained an advantage, unless it was a deliberate save by any opponent.'
"As the Law deems that Rodri has not gained an advantage, he has not committed an offside offence and play should be allowed to continue. Rodri legitimately took possession of the ball from Mings, starting the attack which resulted in the goal."

He didn’t gain and advantage apart from the big advantage that was gained.

He didn’t even receive the ball from Mings, it was taken

Yeah, it's a load of bullshit. They're just covering up their incompetence and ineptitude with a reinterpretation of the law and the facts. Just like our shameless government.

I fucking hate the world. Football is a microcosm of how much of a clusterfuck everything is at the moment.

They're basically trying to hide the fact that their officials have made a huge error here. Quite disgraceful really.

Had Mings controlled the ball and tried to play the ball back and Rodri intercepted, it would be onside.

In fact, that's actually what that PGMOL quote is inferring. They believe, he took control of the ball and Rodri intercepted (not tackled) him. Similar to Gerrard passing the ball to Henry/Drogba, but from a much closer range.

To even claim that "Rodri has not gained an advantage" is disingenuous and contrary to the video evidence.
