Out of the Title Race ?

Incredibly some posters who should know better are making this claim - however it seems that they are in a very very VERY small minority who think that way.

Wenger
“They had two tricky opponents,†said Wenger. “Tottenham are on a high at the moment, and when you play Aston Villa at home, you know they can be dangerous on the counter-attack.

“But I do not discount Liverpool. I believe they will still be a threat for the title.â€

O'Neil
“It’s staggering the number of prophecies that are made after two, three or four games of the season. It’s truly staggering, but nothing surprises me.â€

Oliver Kay
People are writing them off by saying they lost twice last season and they have already lost twice this season. Manchester United lost four games last season and still won the league, so it is not all about how many you lose. Liverpool's problems last season came because of the number of matches they drew.

Having said that there isn't a great margin for error in the Premier League these days. Liverpool have to recover from this very quickly and get on a winning run if they are going to be in the mix at the end of the season. All the top teams will probably lose more games than they did last season and the winning points tally may well be lower than last season. Having said that Liverpool can't afford to start slowly.

----------------------------------------------------

Please feel free to add your own.

A few wins will get us back on track and I do agree with Oliver Kay's summation .... whilst the bottom half of the table looks weaker the top half looks much stronger and our points total from last season could even be enough to win it this season as more points are lost by the Top 4 to other challengers ...... and we're only one point off it from our results against those same teams from last year.

It's borderline idiotic to count us out of the title race after three games. We have only lost one more than Manu. Last season, it was draws against poor teams that cost us, so this rubbish about we have already lost the same number of games as lost season is just that, rubbish. It's all about perspective. The doom and gloomers want to focus on the fact that we have lost twice and from that, deduce that our title campaign is over.

It's absolutely laughable.

Spider made that good point yesterday and our season can obviously get back on track.

If you're being really positive, I think the players prefer coming from behind in a title race. I'm not sure our team have the required mentality to lead from the front.

there has been nothing in our play this season to suggest that we are even in the title race. no one anticipated that we'd lose 2 of the first 3 games. even when we beat stoke our play was disjointed and the mid table teams both beat us comfortably.

I agree with Oliver Kay, particularly his two 'Having said that's. We need to go on a long winning run, and we need to do it now.

Unfortunately, gifting Chelsea, Arsenal and City a 6-point headstart also probably means that we'll have beat our direct rivals as we did last season. Not impossible, but a pressure we could have done without.

I agree with Wenger about Spurs, btw, but Villa? Nah, they were there for the taking and we fucked it up. If we play like that against half the teams in the league, we will lose. And if we keep playing like that for the next couple of months, we will definitely be out of the title race.

Spurs were by far the better the team, but Villa beat us comfortably? Cop on. They scored a flukey og, from a corner and penalty after a crazy rush of blood to the head from Gerrard. They had very little of the rest of the game.

villa beat us 3-1 at anfield. as hard as it is a pill to swallow that's a comfortable win. we were in the game for 5 minutes in the second half. granted we played ok upto the lucas incident in the 1st half but i didn't expect villa to turn on the style but rather make the most of heir chances and sit back.

We've got another 5-6 weeks of Lucas.

And we have to pray that Aquilani stays fit once he's back.

Perhaps the score flattered their play. They got all three from set pieces.

Clearly its too early to say we're out of the race but we've certainly not made life easy for ourselves.
The time frame for Alberto being fit was 4 to 8 weeks. That was when we signed him nearly 3 weeks ago. He's already in light training, hopefully he'll step it up within a fortnight.
The only way you could believe we cant win it is if you believe that we cant go on a run of say 10 to 15 straight wins at some point this season. And if you think that your a wankspanner.
Its a fucking shite start to the season, but we arent out of the running already. We DO need to go on a stellar run tho.

History dictates we are not going to win it after a start like this.

Of course we can still win it but then so can city. Will they? I doubt it very much.

I'm not even bothered I never expected a serious title challenge this year when we lost Xabi and didn't buy a second striker or a threatening winger.

Without Alonso we need Gerrard in the middle running things and to do that we need another quality striker with Torres or else we find Gerrard and Torres isolated as we have seen already against Spurs and Villa to some degree. Lucas simple cannot pull the strings.

Hopefully we will sort out our defence in time for the business end of the cups but as for the league those expecting a big run of wins or a title challenge will be bitterly disappointed by xmas.

Last year was the exception. We will be out of the race by November again as per usual.

I just hope we beat Utd home and away.

Bollocks.

We are down but not out!

For those who say we are out, might as well give up now. Then try to celebrate each win and stop moping after each lost! If you cannot do that, forget about supporting Liverpool. Might as well go support MU or Chelsea since they seems to have the better chance and are the pundits and punters favourites to win the title. Don't put yourself through all the agony. It is not worth your while.

For those of us who still linger on with hope, put your voice and your heart to where your team is. Wear it on your sleeve. Be proud of your team, through thick and thin. Even as we walk through the storm and in the rain, as it is now, we shall walk together in our losing and our winning. Come on Liverpool.

DB, that is the most self indulgent drivel i've read in a long time. Oh look at me i'm not even bothered anyway, I knew we had no chance, i'll keep reiterating that we didn't replace Alonso or buy someone to help Torres, over and over again. Give it a rest. You only come on these days when we lose to thrown in your predictable doom and gloom mongering, I told ye we had no chance, etc.

We all want Liverpool to challenge and do well, what we don't need is our own fans constantly ramming it down our throats that we've been poor early doors. We know. You haven't stumbled upon some divine wisdom. Sometime I questions whether some fans can nearly take comfort when we lose, safe in the knowledge they can log on and proclaim "I told ye so".

You used to be a happy go lucky poster, ever the optimist in fact. Has someone on your travels written you the most OTT reality cheque in the world, so that you feel the need to constantly tell us the 'harsh facts'.

"Hopefully we will sort out our defence in time for the business end of the cups". That line even stinks of defeatism. Try supporting Liverpool for a change. You might like it.

Why do you even bother following Liverpool DB ?
I would have little interest in football if I didn't.

I love the club, love following every last bit of news about the club.

It's sickening to see us fail to win the league year after year but it doesn't stop me from following the club or loving the club.
