Looks like our 2 main targets to replace Mane in January are Oxlade-Chamberlain and Quincy Promes. Probably the Ox is the first choice as we wouldn't bother trying to negotiate with Arsenal otherwise. Who would you choose?

Several newspapers running with this story

Liverpool are considering an ambitious bid for Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the January transfer window.

The England international has been identified as an important potential addition to Jürgen Klopp’s squad and would be a replacement for Sadio Mané when he plays for Senegal in the Africa Cup of Nations next month.

Oxlade-Chamberlain would be expected to command a fee of between £20 million to £25 million, it is believed, and has just one more year left on his contract at Arsenal after this campaign.

It looks like people have been briefed. Wondering if the briefing happened from Oxlade-Chamberlain's side who are negotiating for a new contract rather than ours.

The regulars, Joyce and others, have been silent on this.

Not a chance.
I like the kid but we arent paying 25m million for him.
You want consistentcy for that.

I wouldnt be against bringing him in.

that's only £10m more than we got for Ibe though - I can't see Arsenal selling to us in a million years , especially after the bad feeling with Suarez and this suggestion over Firmino's contract- although how true it is I don't know

I think he's been held back st Arsenal- that's partly due to injuries. It's a bit like Wallcot , if they were at another club they would be much better players

Why is that? I keep hearing it from different people, but what's the logic behind that assertion? Isn't Arsene actually pretty good at developing and trusting young players?

We didn't get it with Lallana until Klopp.
Maybe it's a worthwhile gamble as the talent is definitely there.

I don't know why it is Rurik. It seems whenever Wallcots contract is due Wenger makes all sorts of promises to him about playing him regularly and through the middle and once he has he goes back to being a bit part player. It's the same with Giroud - you used the word "trust", I don't think he does trust a lot of his players

I suspect the Vladster is referring to their appalling injury record.

Edit: apparently not (!) but it is a pretty poor record and questions have been asked before now about their training methods.

I think ge means consistency. Obviously ive always thought he was brilliant.
He was on the list

You only get consistency when played regularly in the same position- which Rodgers never did. Klopp never waved a magic wand he just played him right [emoji106]

I think he'd have developed better at a smaller club too. I think both of them have near enough always just suplemented the squad rather than being promoted to being a crucial part of it - which is just as Wenger-like as the idea that he's great at developing youth. He is, but he's also puts huge emphasis on investment in young foreign players.

I agree that injuries haven't helped though, but I think he would have been more pivotal to a smaller club and as a result, he would have played more football which can only aid development quicker - or at least help give us more of an idea about whether he is good enough.

He's a talented player no question and suits the way we play, I'd be concerned about the price and his injury record though.

Is that backed by much evidence, though? Seems to be an old myth. The only young player who developed at Arsenal who I can recall is Fabregas and even then it's doubtful he'd not have done as well elsewhere. Would Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Wilshere etc. have done any worse elsewhere with more playing time given their so obvious, early talents? I think so.

As for the player himself, if Klopp wants him, he probably sees an opportunity for improving him. Still think it's his agent stirring more than anything else.

I think what makes the Ox different from many Arsenal players is that he's not a fair-weather type, he has more raw aggression and passion about him that's probably not quite being fully used in Wenger's more cerebral way of managing. There were glimpses of it in the last game against us when they were down 3:1 and shell-shocked and he just put his head down, drove right at the heart of our defense and scored. Or in his crucial injury-time assist after coming on as a sub against United. If Klopp or another manager can tap into that instinctive and emotional place, make him feel trusted and in return ask for consistent 110% effort, I think he can be a really good player, because all the raw tools are there.

Basically, he's an upgrade on Ibe and could be a good addition to the squad.

His injury record, as previously mentioned, is an issue.

Calculated gamble - I suppose.

Arsenal will sell if the money's right.

I don't know anything about Quincey Promes.
