Phil Jones is a fantastic talent...got all the tools to be a top central defender for the next 10-15 years.

Strong, brave, reads the game well and has a surprising turn of pace for such a robust lad.
Yeah, he does look like he could have a good future alright.
I wouldn't be as sure as you that he will be a *top* CB but you never know.

Welcome to the site by the way, Gary25.

Thanks mate.

Every time i've watched Jones he's impressed me. Very authoritative lad for only 19 as well.

A few have likened him to John Terry, and i see similarities but Jones is quicker and more mobile than Terry.

Much prefer if we go all out for Jones than say Henderson as we're more in need of a central defender than mid player.

hasn't he played right back a fair bit too or was that someone else?
Don't think hes played right back mate, but he's played centre mid before and more than held his own.

His preferred and best position is at the heart of the defence though. Really rate the lad.

Arsenal are also interested too, just hope we get in there first.

Apparently we bid somewhere in the region of £8-10 million for Connor Wickham.

when?

Today.

So Conor Wickham now . Not sure what to make of all this , on one hand we've always been shouting to buy the best young talent but are Jones, henderson and Wickham really it ? . And the combined fees are what , 35-40m ....ok that one Andy Carroll but big gamble if doesn't work out .

Another concern is how long will we have to wait for them to really start having an impact , will they all be first team players right from the go? . I guess Wickham could work out well as we need a backup striker so most likely a good young one is more patient for playing time.

Really? at this rate we're going to have to change our name to England Under 21s for next season haha.

No but on a serious note, Wickham's another up and coming youngster destined for big things.

I'd be delighted if we signed Jones and Wickham, i'm less sold on Henderson but Kenny knows what he's doing.

Jones, Henderson, Wickham and at least two established players ready for the first team - (Mata?), then it's bring on the 2011-2012 season as far as i'm concerned. 😀

Wickham would be a backup to Suarez and Carroll that's for sure, but what a talent to have in reserve(if we sign him that is).

I would say Jones is ready for first team action straight away, only 19, and in no way is he the finished article but i can easily see him playing alongside Carragher, Skrtel or Agger.

Henderson's a funny one, i thought we had Charlie Adam in the bag but it's gone quiet on that front. Either way i'd expect us to play a 3 man central midfield next season.

You have to remember that the the fans will give Kenny patience like no other from the fans to build the team he wishes. He's not under short-term pressure to find the 'missing piece of the jigsaw' each summer.

I've got no problem investing in decent youth talent, but I must say that I haven't watched any of these young players play.

I know Jones started out as a defender but Big Sam played him as a DM when the 1st choice pairing of Nelson and Samba were available. Both parties earned plaudits for the performances and decision respectively. Wonder where his long term position will be.

My ma's quicker than Terry, and she's 81.

Apperantly we're very keen on this young CB and want to tie up a deal quickly. Will be expencive and is wanted by half the Premiership, but has apperantly got a release clause of 16 mill.

Cahill is close to agreeing a move to City btw.

Sounds like the perfect replacement for Carra when he hangs up his boots.

My only reservation with Jones is his height.

Jones has been shown around Melwood today (apparently) and his signing is imminent.
Sources close to The Mersey Juror have confirmed that Liverpool’s move for defender Phil Jones is likely to get tied up in the next few days. The Blackburn Rovers starlet spent time at Melwood today being shown the facilities and it’s now just a case of dotting i’s and crossing t’s. Jones is certianly one for the future and fits into Liverpool’s new approach of buying young British players, with Sunderland’s Jordan Henderson also high on Dalglish’s hit list.

Sky Bet have slashed the odds on Phil Jones moving to Anfield from 5/1 to 4/5.

Hahahaha.

I dont think it matters tbh. He's very strong in the air regardless. He's probably the biggest defensive talent in the league, and one of the better ones in Europe.
Most complete centre back I've seen in a long long time, with his age in mind.
