I think of it slightly differently. We will play with a de-facto front 4 in most games, even if formation says 4-3-3 or 3-4-3. So we’re not choosing 3 from 5, we’re choosing 4 from 7 (or 8 if you include Doak):

That’s a lot of talent and variety there, but I don’t think you have a prime Salah-Mane-Firmino type of trio in here that can create and finish all the chances all by themselves while rest of the team focuses on pressing. On the other hand, a front 4 with Gakpo or Szloboszlai as the attacking #8/10 will be more defensively solid than the ones Klopp tried with Coutinho or Shaqiri.
Still to make this system really unbeatable, it would be great to have a prime Kante/Mascherano patrolling the midfield next to Trent.

Nah, that doesn't make sense.
Sure in a worst case scenario, if we have injuries in midfield, but you're saying that we can potentially play with Salah, Diaz, Jota and Gakpo on the pitch.

I would be willing to bet - to make it easy let’s say the first 10 league games of the season. If the 7 I mentioned start more than 5 of these games together I win, if not you win. Deal?

I think Szobo and Gakpo are almost interchangeable - both can be front 3 players or attacking #8’s. But yeah, if we exclude Szlobo that severely diminishes my chances, so I guess it’s off…

So, that leaves Diaz. He contributes a fair bit overall but needs to add more end product. Let's give him the chance to do so against Chelsea.

Yep spot on. Gakpo and Salah have the least to prove, the LW spot is most up for grabs, but I'd start with Diaz.
On form alone you would have to say gakpo ahead of nunez. But I still believe nunez has more potential than gakpo.
