Carraghers genuinely makes the most sense though?

3rd seemed realistic for us, city winning seemed mildly realistic. Only thing I'd say he was off about was thinking Ipswich would be good enough to avoid the drop

Man united tbf were 4 points off 4th when ten hag got sacked, so he might not have been far off. Spurs last season started like a house on fire and then petered out. After summer investment, they should have done better. Injuries (combined with Ange) made them must worse.

His suggestions aren't unrealistic, just look way off with hindsight

He's a celebrated ex player in Madrid too. He played there more than he did at anfield. It's like you're talking about a different player!

It's also like people can't accept facts.

I don't like Madrid. They're a bigger club than us. In the Spanish speaking world it isn't even close. It's not a debate. There's a reason Trent wants to go there, there's a reason alonso had a bigger career there than here, there's a reason they get great players from other clubs by tapping them up on frees, and it'll happen in the future as well. They are their own case.

I'm happy with what we are. I don't have an inferiority complex. We're fucking massive, the way we do things I love. But, if you like the biggest brightest spotlight, and there's some allure to that and that clubs history to you, we don't have a counterargument along the same lines.

Not even close to the same thing though.

He's Spanish, played more games for Real than us (was coach of their U14 team) but most importantly last season was too early for him IMHO.

All very logical TBH, Unlike a Scouser of 20 years at Anfield.

He ruled himself out pretty early in the process before we really firmed up our interest in anyone.

I think it was more “early fan favourite” than anything, which then became Amorim before we cooled on him and landed somewhat unexpectedly on Slot.

I’m not saying they’re the same thing though. I’m also not saying there’s not a logic about it or that I’m livid either (see Fark’s response above).

Ultimately they’re both making choices to manage or play for a club that, though objectively are the biggest in the world, stand symbolically for something I think is less than soulful, celebrated or ultimately healthy in the game. Ergo, whether they’re scouse, been at the club 20 years, projected a thoughtful personal quality, been universally loved as a Red or whatever, played for Real before…they’re making a key career choice that tells me something about how they see themselves, their career, football etc…and ultimately how well connected they are psychologically, emotionally, to all that is special about LFC…

Whether It’s Trent, Xabi or whoever…a career move to Madrid to me means that they don’t fully get what it means to belong to this great club and community…you can’t have an emotional connection to Madrid and Liverpool at the same time, or at least to the degree that you really get Anfield …but at the same time, So be it…each to their own…
