Post Match Thread - Spurs (A)

I decided to amuse myself by having a look at a Spurs forum. They're all fairly despondent and it looks like today was the straw that broke the camels back for many as far as AVB's future goes. One of them said this was their worst home defeat in ~15 years.

Football is shit a lot of the time but the euphoria of days like today remind you why you love it!

Someone was pitching a tent.

As much as he's caught up in all the excitement, Lucas is over-exaggerating a bit with his description of Flanno's hard-on.

I've been listening to 606 on 5 live. Spurs fans want AVB sacked.

2-1 win got me one point in the prediction league, so there. knew we would win

Just had a quick look on a Spurs forum, pisses me off the 'without Suarez they are nothing' type comments.

Obviously hes huge for us as are all special players for teams, its weird thats its used as a stick to jab at us with, plus its not like we are awful without him.

From a team so reliant on bale last season that's a little ironic.

The one slight thing bugging me about this is how the players will react.

If they think they can do that against every team they meet they're mistaken, they have to treat every match like that from the off, all that work rate & energy.

Indeed, and theres also a lot of irony in it as it was a complete team performance from us today.

Luis Alberto showed what he can do outside the box. His vision and control is impressive.
Looks lazy at times, is definitely not someone who should play on the wing or in midfield, his position is behind the striker.

TBF, that was known before he was bought, and between him, Coutinho and possibly Suso (who may operate in more of a wing/forward role) that position should be sewn up for a good while. At this point I think the best thing we could add to the midfield is a Yaya type (defensive but ball playing and with a stride on him) of player if we could find one.

I found one where they were threatening bans for being "too negative" 🙂

This amused me:

I want to win this game so badly, you'd think Liverpool were Barcelona the way some of my friends are banging on about them. They have two of their best players injured and a naive little goblin playing left-back, the game is there for us. Just win the midfield battle and we've got this, my only concern is Lloris. He made a horrendous mistake at Anfield last season and he's becoming more skittish. I still can't believe he didn't catch the cross at Sunderland.

I'm currently reading some threads on a Spurs forum called "the fighting cock"
Someone should hack it and change the name to "the floppy cock"

Indeed, it was quite interesting to here how Gerrard said Rodgers will tell them to forget about it asap.

Heh, wow.

Too much to say, but just wanted to comment on the performances of the always underrated, and mostly maligned midfield triumverate of Allen, Lucas, and Henderson. They can play, let that never be in doubt.

What, just what a fucking win though. That's why you sit through the years of shite, sometimes your team throws a bit of ridiculously glorious hope your way.

Thoughts from the game :

- great team performance - intensity, hard work and movement. We need to keep this up.

- ok, I'll say it - our midfield is a lot more dynamic without Gerard. Allen & Henderson cover more ground, pressing, getting forwards & getting back to help Lucas. Of course Gerrard will slot in once fit, but to what effect?

- You don't need big powerful players to boss the midfield - Lucas was excellent.

- Sakho stays in the team - he adds a physical element that, unlike the midfield, our defence needs - Agger might have a problem getting back in to the team.

- The movement if our front 3 was great - so fluid / they really are a handful & there's more to come. Coutinho & Sterling are improving l, but yet to hit top form - strange as it may seem after winning 5-0, but they both need to be more clinical in both decision making & finishing. We'll be a truly frightening prospect when they are.

- Suarez. One of the most driven & talented players in football. Please get more quality in to help him & we'll win some serious trophies.

- 15 well deserved minutes of fame for Flannagan - is he a long term answer? Probably not - but definitely has a role in the squad and did very well.

- one negative - we really have to cut out that fannying about with the ball in defence that leads to back passes to the keeper and putting him under unnecessary pressure - we could have lost at least 2 goals today because of it.
