Huge game. Couldn’t ask for Arsenal to be without two more important players plus a slightly injured Saka.

This would be such an important win. The only question mark for me is how we fit Jones in. I’d actually start him over Macca, as a show of faith. I don’t think it’s an option for either to do the Szobo pressing role.

Kelleher

Trent
Konate
Virgil
Robbo

Gravy
Jones
Szobo

Salah
Nunez
Diaz

Excited to see our new version of Gravy here. As it was against Arsenal last season he put in a terrible showing. Really fancy him against Rice here.

I can't see us winning this game, not because Arsenal are a better team - but Slot may not be ready for a top of the table away fixture in PL yet. Having said that our players are well experienced, and I'd like to be proven wrong.

Will take a draw in this one.

He’s done Old Trafford and San Siro.

I think it’ll be interesting to see how we deal with Arteta’s “dark arts” but i think they know they’re under the microscope.

Set pieces are their biggest threat. And Martinelli who will be banging himself wide left to get in behind Trent.

Since 22/23, and a more recent version of Arteta's Arsenal, our decent PL record against them has fallen away.

Arse - Liverpool 3-2
Liv - Arse 2-2
Liv - Arse 1-1
Arse -Liv 3-1

Cast aside a third round FA Cup win, we've taken just 2 points from the last 4 games. If ever there was a time to reassert our dominance, it's now. This might sound entitled given our current top-of-the-league status, and perhaps it is, but I'd welcome a statement victory by two clear goals to silence pundits who spent the summer salivating at our potential demise. Bolt on Rice and Arteta getting red-cards, only to watch the Arsenal fans heads blow off, will be the stuff of dreams.

It's a pity Jota is out - has 8 in 15 games against them and their fans are sick to death of him. It feels strange typing this about Arsenal but they are uncharacteristically resilient and aggressive side. There may be individual fuck-ups and moments of stupidity but collectively they'll always make it a tough game even without key players.

Jones, for me, edges into the team. He knits together the left side of attack and combines well with Nunez, which is important when Diaz is off doing his own thing a lot of the time. I don't think Slot has the option to lose Szobo's running power and work rate from the midfield against a top-team.

Mac and Gakpo first subs, and please for the love of god, bring on Endo at the end. Clue's in the name!

Spot on. Would be really useful if we had more than one attacking threat on the bench, but doesn’t look like any of Chiesa Jota or Elliot will make it. Will Slot look to a kid to bolster then bench should we need to?

Odegaard has left the team to join the Harlem globetrotters.

Yes, I’m still bitter about that handball.

In previous seasons, Arsenal have come out fast and furious which put us on the back foot. Now we are more controlled and measured I think we can take that part of the game away from them.

The only decision to be made is who will partner Gravenberch. The rest of the side picks itself.

Gravy over Rice. Delicious

You have to take into consideration, for that 3-1 defeat, that they were at full strength with absolutely no-one missing (click the link below for the teams). Whilst we were without Salah, Szobo and Robbo. Add that to the Odegaard handball (penalty) that even Saliba thought was a penalty and we should have got out of that with at least a draw (Konate then wouldn't have been sent off and Trossard not get what would then have been a winner 4 mins later). We was robbed g'uvner.

There's nothing between us at the moment. It could go either way but I think that their missing players are going to be a massive blow and we'll come away with a very very hard-fought win as opposed to losing if they were at full strength.

Same team as above except Macca for Jones. Don't play around when we play the big teams, especially away.
Last time around Jones only started because Macca returned semi injured from the other side of the world.

Yeah I'm torn on this one. It comes down to : is Szobo running around the field like a mad man but constantly coughing up possession better or worse than Jones not having the same stamina but still putting in a decent defensive shift but retaining possession far better and being a greater danger in attack. I'll go with Jones.

Grav Jones Szobo absolutely has to be the trio for this, overrun and overwhelm them and expose Rice for the 100m fraud he is.

To me there was a clue last night (unless I'm reading more into it than was there) and I think Slot is going to start Jones (30 mins yesterday) over Szobo (90 mins). For the those things he values above all else - control and possession.

Delightfully Arsenal will be missing some key players : Calafiori, Odegaard, Saliba, Tomiyasu, Tierney and possibly Timber & Saka (though those two may be forced into service they defo aren't 100%).

This season feels like Liverpool's back to Benitez / Houllier times. But with a stronger squad, especially when it comes to the first 11. Defensively-minded set up but with VVD, Konate, Salah, Nunez, Macca,... Liverpool is very explosively built. All of Liverpool's players are tremendous sprinters.

Liverpool used to nick these games all the time. Especially away at Arsenal. Alisson's absence is the only real big concern.

ps And the unspoken elephant in the room is that playing like that I think Liverpool couldn't really compete for the league.

From the two largest Arsenal forums.

We will be lucky if we manage to concede less than 5 goals, even if Saliba was available that team would still struggle.

--

Califiori's injury looks serious so obviously a massive doubt for Sunday. Saliba is suspended, so where does that leave the defence. Hopefully Timber is fit...but not holding my breath on that. White's form in the last two games is a worry, and Kiwior is a worry even when fully fit.
I don't think Liverpool are as good as the media want us to believe they are, however as a side they can and will smell blood. I fear a long uncomfortable evening in The Emirates.

--

ITK
Understand Bukayo Saka is expected to be available for the upcoming match against Liverpool, having trained, pending any last-minute changes or niggles, meanwhile Riccardo Calafiori is set to undergo a crucial scan scheduled for today.
Bukayo Saka not ruled out of title showdown against Liverpool, with the Arsenal attacker hoping to prove his fitness ahead of Sunday's clash. Mikel Arteta said on Tuesday it is 'unlikely' Saka will be fit

--

Even with 11 men we're struggling. We're going through Jose's 3rd season syndrome.

Arteta cannot rejuvinate our attack and now that injuries are mounting up (thanks to coneboy's lack of rotation in the past seasons). We're due a massive slump in form.

--

Yeah I'm not expecting him (Calafiori) back. I just hope it's not Kiwior, he ain't ready for this game. Back 4 being White-Kiwior-Gabriel-Zinchenko
--

Zinny at left back? Nah, I’d rather drag someone from the crowd to play there.
--

Raya
Partey - White - Gabriel - Kiwior
Rice
Trossard - Merino
Saka - Havertz - Martinelli

I assume we will see this since Arteta tends to play Partey at right back if possible.

--
Pool looking good tonight.

--

Not looking forward to this, sad times.
--

Kiwior or Zinchenko against Salah is going to be ugly.
Unless there’s a miracle and Saka, Timber and Calafiori are somehow fit for Sunday, our potential lineup is looking really grim.

--
Liverpool will definitely look to be more conservative against us on Sunday. Unpopular opinion but I think this team would be harder to play against than Klopp's approach last season. Its going to be a game of fine moments, they will look to create space with their passing and movement, with a focus on direct play ... Oh, and we need to be up by halftime. The longer the game remains the tight chess match the worse for us I feel.
--

Arsenal will also be very conservative, therefore both teams will want to give the possession to the opponent, IMHO.
Must win for Arsenal, but I'm not very optimistic due to injuries and Saliba's suspension.
--

You get the feeling this game comes at the worst possible moment for us.

When you say Liverpool can't compete for the league, I assume you are referring to Serie A? Can't argue with that

I thought we were going to get beat, but as you've been spectacularly wrong about everything you've posted I now think we're going to smash them off the park.

hihi No. I actually mean the Premier League. I've been following Liverpool quite closely from Italy and from other places around the world where I've lived and travelled. It is my favourite club in England. By far. So I am pretty familiar with it. Apart from the Italian league it is only the English league and the English football that I like to watch and follow. And I've been doing it for years. And now that my boy Chiesa has joined Liverpool, and that I have joined your website, I also consider myself as a Liverpool supporter. If that were not so I certainly wouldn't be here.

And if I remember well, Benitez would often set his teams up to play a counter-attacking football. Very solid at the back and then super explosive going forward especially with Gerrard and Torres. That type of football brought some great success to Liverpool, but not in the Premier League.

As said, Gravenberch looked out of his depth there last season, so has an extra point to prove. I was really impressed with Nunez in the last two games, even if he wasn't a hugely significant goal threat. If Jota is fit though I'd expect him to start. Diaz back in too.

I like that Slot recognises there are times when he needs to hook TAA and shore things up, both him and Salah looked peeved again last night, but they need to grow up and learn to deal with it for the greater good. Salah was dire last night and shouldn't have started, because starting midweek after a full weekend game is exactly when it starts to tell with him and he looks off the pace.

Salah still had the assist to the winning goal though. We need to figure out how to score some goals when he isnt playing.
