So could Chiesa have been included or not? That's the only thing that actually matters.
Yep. That’s where I looked. I can’t find any reason why Chiesa isn’t in the squad other than being told to sit back down we haven’t booked you a flight.
And do you know what, that wouldn't surprise me. We usually book a private plane and it can be configured different ways depending on how many people we're taking. They'll have booked if for comfort to give the players maximum relaxing room and all that, with coaching staff having good seats and then a bit of cattle for the admin people. There's a good chance there just isn't enough room for an extra at playing comfort standard. But honestly, I'd have just had a word with Freddie Woodman and said would you mind giving up your seat for Fede and sitting with the coaching staff instead? I'm sure he wouldn't have minded.
From a squad selection perspective, absolutely, but see comments above about the plane, as mad as it sounds.
I bet the club didn’t want to pay the name change fee from Leoni to Chiesa. Spent too much on Wirtz and Isak for that.
Christ that's an absolutely terrible way to treat him. I don't just mean the plane thing either, just the fact that he could've been included easily enough. Makes him look like a right loser.
I'd like to think that he's on some sort of individual fitness programme with the coaches / physios and they've decided best for him to stay home and work on that, but the lad's been great for us this season when he's played and he managed a full 90 last week, which is more than most of our forwards do (other than Mo, obvs). If there isn't another explanation then it's an extremely shoddy way to treat him, to say nothing of the fact that he'd almost certainly do some form of job for us if he was there.
