Pre Match Pre Match - Leicester (A) - Sun 16:30

We’re winning this game and people will complain afterwards. It’s written in stone.

Haha, I’m not refusing to discuss it all.
You’re the one calling our players frauds and charlatans. That’s a level I can’t relate to as a fan.

And talking about sidestepping the discussion points. What’s the point of adding things like «you can’t rely on last minute winners» to the discussion when they aren’t even true. Just to make a point.
Last seasons comeback kings were another team btw.

The discussion is moot anyway. Fuck going around in circles.
The negativity is fucking up the joy of winning the league. But that’s probably only me.
I SAID ABOUT LAST SEASON WHEN WE FELL AWAY.

WHICH IVE SAID 3 TIMES NOW

I SAID LAST SEASON WE FELL AWAY BECAUSE IT WASNT SUSTAINABLE

This is what I mean. You're actively ignoring things for seemingly harshing your buzz

Tell you what, if you only care about results and not performances. Log off and come on again when seasons done. Have a little celebrate then log off. Then see you July 2026 to talk about results again. Clearly you don't want to talk about the actual football being played.

Imagine being unhappy we're playing shite on a match day but being happy we're still winning the league.

Imagine feeling 2 emotions that are actually nothing to do with each other.

To be fair, it's not like anyone truly deserves to start games based on merit but is not playing. We can play anyone and a faction of the fans will be unhappy as long as we are playing badly. There is also no guarantee we will start playing better with some changes.

Jota scored and was shit for the next 2 games. Cody came in last week, not great. Jones started, not great. Tsimi was good but do we truly want him starting every game? Elliot and Chiesa are all but long shot with little proof that they will improve our overall performance. When was the last time Elliot had a good game? When was the last time Chiesa played more than 30 mins? Nunez? He's in Saudi already.

However and this points has been made, which you’re avoiding - playing poorly and winning is not normal and it’s not sustainable - it usually leads to a run of form that devastates a season / you only have to look back 12 months for an example.
All teams go through periods where form drops off. Ours has come at the tail end of the season with the league won. All through the season people were saying we'll hit a poor patch of form (though they didn't think we'd still be winning those games) well here it is and this is what it looks like.

As for the whys and wherefores, undoubtedly some mental fatigue - in that context being at the top of the PL and fighting tooth and nail in both PL and CL week in week out isn't the same as Villas situation. And having the PL all but won weeks ago must indeed lead to a mental relaxation and in the PL that 10-20% drop off is likely to be enough to affect performances in most games. This is after all the best league in the world with far less difference between most teams than there is in most leagues.

I watched some TV commentators say this week that it was interesting that we almost always find a way to come back (almost against Fulham - just left ourselves too much to do) and that's because we are playing with extra gears we can hit - it was suggested we went up 4 gears vs West ham after the equaliser !

As for next season ... there are far too many variables to make any predictions at this moment. City, Arse and ourselves battling it out I'd assume. City have the WCC to contend with - that could impact them, but they still won't be the City of the 115.

As for whether we'll be better ... well those that we talk about as 'aging', Mo. VvD, Ali, Robbo etc. will end the season one year older, how much difference that will make remains to be seen, not so concerned about VvD or Ali but Mo. I am (though still glad he's here he'll need careful handling) and I'm guessing Robbo will be on the bench more than a starter.

We will need a good transfer Summer to remain in contention, a great Summer could see us repeat this season. All that said an even greater impact could be the effect of Slot's tactics as the team evolves into his image.

Not massively following the @Fabio & @Hansern back and forth but if the question is 'is this a lucky season' i say not. We are on course for 90 points, and I at least thought we were relentless and clinical up until Jan. Since then the performances on the surface feel negative and lethargic but I don't feel any outsized level of luck.

Quite right too. Cliché though it may be, the table doesn't lie.

I’m not, but whatever. It’s been sustainable regardless - that’s my fucking point.
1 last minute winner in 12 league games.
It’s performances that are basically just good enough to win.
So we’re either not playing as poorly as you think or we have the most luck any team has had in decades.
Given its Slot’s first year in charge, as some seem to forget, it’s quite understandable that performances will vary and he’ll have to address that we basically peaked to early in the season in terms of our best form.

Anyway, the points been made a million times and we’re going around in circles.

You’re doing it again - I didn’t say anything about out last minute winners - so you’re conflating what I’m saying with something or someone else.

Do you think we’ve been playing well of late? Like are the performances better or worse than earlier in the season?

Again, I feel I have to say - I think it’s great we’re finding a way to win matches despite not playing well - it’s a great ability to have - it’s what wins you leagues.

We’ll probably end up getting more points in the 2nd half of the season while not playing well, than when we were playing well in the first half of the season.

That’s great - but if you think that’s normal or sustainable you’re bonkers - luck has little to do with it other than lucky other teams haven’t put pressure on us.

What it is, is a worrying trend - where we aren’t firing on all cylinders in the run in - because that has and will cost us more over time than every time it doesn’t.

I have seen as we try to play 10% better than the opposition which means you really should win. When push came to shove we went heavy metal and almost got results in some of those games like Newcastle and Fulham. It worked against West Ham.

Personally, I don’t like it. I would prefer to get the game won then play more controlled football. It’s also better to watch.

I at no point have claimed it's a lucky season. At worst I've claimed we're lucky to have done all the heavy lifting in the first half of the season so other teams shifted priorities in the last month or so. We will be deserved title winners.

I've said we're playing poorly at the moment and that's fucking it.

I’m not doing anything again. I was just using it as an extra example. But whatever floats your boat in trying to force something.

We’ve been round this block in circles before and it’s just tiresome, so I’ll enjoy the run in and title while you and Fabio can worry about trends and if discussions are done correctly.

Probably. Seems to be the usual cycle of Szobo/shite/Jones/shite
Which makes me wonder why Elliott doesn't get a chance. But then again, it only proves that Slot has no intention of keeping him next season.
There's going to be some tears shed during the last walk around the pitch.

There is an absolute lack of top quality affordable 9s in the world. Watkins on a short term deal if the fee was reasonable does make some sense

The fee wouldn't be reasonable though

The fee would have to be £20m or so to really be worth it. Maybe £30m if we could squeeze 3 years out of him and we aim at £10m a year, which seems reasonable. Didn't Arsenal have like £65m turned down?

Seems like a non-starter really.

He's already said he's not going to leave. We do need squad players to cover for injuries etc. Elliott is a good squad player to keep, but he's not good enough as a regular IMO.

Yeah and Elliott has also said that he wants to play. Ultimately it's not really his decision.

If I was Elliott I would want out. Getting a fleeting number of appearances here and there isn’t good for his own development.
