Pre Match Pre-match Villa (H) - Saturday 20:00

Again excuses.. Brizzle starts the thread 5 seconds after the full time whistle.

The reason we are in this mess is because I didn't fire one up quick enough for @dee 's standards, and the superstition and jinx we have spent YEARS building and developing, perfectly lining up as a group... was eradicated.

Like watching an AWS US East server go down, one change brought down the house of cards.

The only way to fix this is to sacrifice the man who looks most like Dee..... Arne Slot.

Draw at best but I'd be surprised if they didn't beat us comprehensively......their performance last week was the single most impressive display I've seen of any side this season in the Prem.

This delusional manager doesn't have the means to turn this around.

Slot has no excuses for team selection

Arne Slot has liberally employed a version of “it’s not an excuse but … ” throughout Liverpool’s worst domestic run in 72 years and there were several more examples as he defended his makeshift lineup for the Carabao Cup defeat by Crystal Palace. Slot also appeared to be getting one in early for the visit of Aston Villa when explaining Liverpool’s senior players had to be rested: “Again, we face a team that has rested in the week to play us.” However, the same could be said for Liverpool, with the majority of their squad given the night off on Wednesday to spend more time preparing to face a Villa team with six wins in their past seven outings. Slot’s prioritising of a league game over progress in the Carabao Cup stirred memories of Brendan Rodgers’ far more consequential decision to rest Steven Gerrard, Philippe Coutinho and Raheem Sterling against Real Madrid in 2014 to save their legs for Chelsea on the Saturday. Liverpool then lost 2-1 at home and the pressure their manager had invited duly intensified. Slot must avoid a repeat. There are no excuses. Andy Hunter

Slot 'happy with quality of team' despite dire Liverpool results

The Liverpool manager Arne Slot was asked whether he feels his squad depth is the reason his side have lost six of their last seven matches.

We miss nothing. I’m happy with the quality of the team. But I’m also convinced by the strategy and policy we have. What makes it ‘the issue’ – not all of them have had a proper pre-season. When three or four are injured, you go down to having 16 players.

I am a firm believer in 21 or 22 players are enough. But you have to keep them fit as we did last season. We are struggling to keep them fit this season for in my opinion, obvious reasons.

[Alexander Isak] came to us on 1 September. A few others missed out in pre-season. It has been more difficult than last season to keep them more available. When players are not available, it [workload] comes down more to the same players.

But no excuses for results. We had to play a lot of away games with only two days in between. That would have been difficult last season, and for any player that has been fit this season through pre-season. But it has not been the case this season.

Then you have to manage it. The upcoming week is three games in eight days. It has nothing to do with squad depth, but it has how we have run through the season in terms of injuries, availability every two or three days.

No excuses, provides excuses. We have injuries and he decided to pointlessly start Isak and Ekitike in a game where Isak got injured.

FFS so what. All, and I mean all, managers make excuses for poor results.

But no excuses. Then make excuses. Leave the no excuses part out if you are going to make them. It’s like saying I’m not racist, but……

& only cowards will backtrack on the excuse they initially made after seeing the backlash from fans.

How about stop mentioning Forest, lack of pre-season, squad depth, low blocks and long balls and start taking some fucking ownership on the shit you're responsible for.

I don't watch press conferences, 'cause I've a life so I'll take your word for what he said) didn't say.

Where do we go from here? There’s no early updates on those who are injured. Gravy and Isak are training. No news on Jones. I’m guessing Ali, Frimpong, Leoni and Badger are deffo out.

Like I wanted against Frankfurt, a solid back line with no instructions to bomb forward at will.

Mamardashvili
Bradley
Konate
Van dijk
Kerkez
Gravenberch
Szoboszlai
Wirtz
Salah plays no matter what
Ekitike
Gakpo

Bench

Woodman
Gomez
Robbo
Endo
Jones
Mac
Isak
Chiesa
Nyoni
Ngumoha

I can’t remember if I’m adding one too many or too few on the bench.

Ramsey played well enough on Wednesday to be included in squad for Saturday. He has an impressive first touch and is good in the air. If Bradley has another poor game Ramsey would be a worthy substitute.

He deserves a spot if I got my numbers wrong. Especially considering how badly loves to change his full backs.

Shame to lose jones, we’ve needed his ball carrying the past few games.

This is how I’d have us set up. Unorthodox but what i think we need to win the midfield.

Marmadash

Bradders
Konate
Virgil
Robbo

Gravy
Macca
Szobo

Salah
Wirtz
Ekitike

Use Wirtz like a Firmino, partly free role but leading the press. Let the midfield all back into their familiar roles.

This line up isn’t losing. The full backs get protection they need. We can control the game and we have the players to unpick villa if they defend in numbers. The extra midfielder means Salah is absolved of defensive duties.

Anfield under lights. Show us the reaction.

Oh FFS just noticed it is 20.00 UK (04.00 here) KO again. Fuck you PL/Sky whoever !
TNT/BT Sports / Europe / Klopp (who pushed for it)

Get used to it. Its the future, we will align to the La Liga set up the next time around.

Friday 8pm

Saturday 12.30
Saturday 3.00
Saturday 5.30
Saturday 8.00

Sunday 12.00
Sunday 2.00
Sunday 4.30
Sunday 7.00

Monday 8.00

Fans will moan about "trains". But thats the next set up. If there's a cup week you may see 2x Saturday 3pm kick offs/ Sunday 2pm kick offs instead (European football dependant).

All its waiting for is the 3pm Saturday black-out to be lifted.

I don’t get why it is at 8. The whole 8pm thing was for the game selected for 12:30 has a team playing away in Europe so they move it. That’s the official reason and not to improve viewing figures which is probably the real reason.

Will it improve viewing figures? Half their audience will be out on a Saturday evening. Asia (⅔ of the world population) will be asleep except in Aus/NZ but the viewing population down there is less than that of Burnley's metropolitan area. The US will just be getting out of bed and not likely to watch it over breakfast.

It’ll be lunch/mid afternoon in the US and loads round here will stay in for the match rather than go out and eat.

I’m also sure the champions league games get decent viewing figures.

CL do because they are midweek and everyone in Europe is either at home or the pub.

Ah yes US I got wrong. Mixed it up with here.

Boy oh boy. Match day. I look forward to another toothless performance with half arsed effort from out priciest players, and a fan favourite (and most consistent performer of the season) to be on the bench.

Can't wait for the 0-3

I'm most excited to hear the excuses afterwards. Most entertaining part of us this year.

One of my binlids is home and saying he's trying to arrange to meet all his mates in the walker art gallery tonight before the football but can't get his head round why it a) shuts at five and b) why his mates don't think Saturday night in the museum pre match is a good idea
