This team would actually look OK to me if Lovren was playing instead of Toure. There is an argument to be made for dropping Gerrard and Balotelli for this game and even for starting Markovic. Rafa put out some "baffling" teams in Europe as well, but it generally got us results. The only "clear" case of an inferior player being selected is Toure/Lovren, but since Lovren is not even in the squad I wonder if there is any injury we don't know about.

Everything depends on how this team performs now – if they manage to pleasantly surprise, Rodgers will have weathered the storm. If we concede 3-4 goals in the first half, Rodgers will end up under a shitload of criticism that could even lead to costing him this job. He's walking a fine line tonight.
