Reds to bid for Kjaer

How come the supposed 17M bid was turned down if he is free to leave for 9M in the summer?

Was it simply that Kjaer himself flatly refused to leave?

Either way, I'll be very disappointed with you and your knee if we don't end up getting him now khl as I've decided to buy into your hype despite knowing very little about him.

No-one really knows it seems but apparently it was the player himself who turned down Citehs approach (maybe Chelseas as well). He said on numerous occasions that he wouldn't move in January because of the upcoming World Cup. Wouldn't find himself sidelined somewhere I reckon (or maybe it was because Liverpool couldn't match Palermos valuation at the time).

We definitely should be in for him and I reckon we will be. What can be a stumbling block is the players desire to be involved from the off. Even if Agger was fit for a whole Season I could still see him reach 40 games easily though so that's probably not a real issue.

*keeps fingers firmly crossed hoping for my knee not to embarrass me to much..*

His reputation on the whole seems to be very promising. To be fair to Rafa his CB buying record is pretty good.

Care is close enough.

You imbecile.

HA!

Sorry.

Footy365.com has a story about Kjaer 'flirting with Liverpool,' saying he wants to form a partnership with Agger.

I'm with Keni - I like this player b/c of Kristian. He's been right on so many of these kids - so I'll go with his track record.

Kjaer for Liverpool!

I joined this bandwagon ages ago. All aboard the Kjaer express!!

Khl - I'm sure you've given the answer to this already, but I'll be fucked if I'm reading through this thread to find out.

Can you tell me a bit about how he plays, the type of defender he is, style, etc etc...

Cheers.

The aerial ability of Hyppia with added pace. Decent on the ground and aggressive??

Almost no one has the aerial ability of Hyppia, I know some are excited, but to state that about a young defender is not exactly managing expectations well.

Obviously please allow for exaggeration and hyperbole. I haven't seen him really, I was going by what KHL said in previous thread. I had a question mark to indicate it was perhaps guesswork.

Hyppia was a monster in the air, if Kjaer was half as good in the air we'd be doing okay.

He's very good in the air but he's no Sami - at least not at this stage. He's stronger build though and although I know Sami was very awkward to come up against beacuse of his stature and hight I reckon Kjaer is even more suited to mark the really strong lads outthere like Drogba, Carew etc. as he's also got some pace to burn. Not beeing as tall as the big Finn is a minus though.

He always looks very composed when having the ball at his feet. Certainly not affraid of playing the ball out of defense on the ground even when under pressure. Nor is he affraid of trying the Gerrard-like pass from one corner flag to another. Needless to say not all of his long-range passing are finding teammates.

Kjaer is a trademark leader on and off the pitch already despite his tender age. After last nights friendly against Austria he came out and openly criticized a player who clumsily lost his marker which led to an easy goal. This even though the lad's 10-years-older than him and has played far more games at this level. I don't know whether that's only a good sign but he has rapidly moved up the ranks in the national team and is not affraid to call a spade a spade.

He is still very young and there's room for improvement obviously, and especially in areas such as his positioning and decision-making.

A few goals from his time in Palermo, the first one is a beaut. (He has now reached 5 goals in 51 games).

All the goals of Simon Kjaer

He'd love this website.

So he's a bit like Hyypia, except he's short, not very good at positioning, and makes a lot of poor decisions.

What does that leave? Just the blond hair?

Good ability in the air, composure, leadership skills I think.

He's 6,2 ft and not exactly a midget.

Anyways don't underestimate the hair mate.

No more CB's please Rafa!

We've got 2 talented young lads that should be given a chance first.
[/quote]

They're not ready yet, whereas Kjaer has a wealth of club and international experience at a tender age. If our 'talented young lads' can't compete, they should be at another club.

I can see where you are coming from but it's evident that we're a strong, aerial commanding presence short.

Appart from Kyrgiakos we don't seem to have anyone who actually seems to thrive when the going gets tough and opponents crowds our penalty-areas with the Sambas of this world. We need someone physical adjust who can win headers.

Ever since Sami left there's been a gap in that department but in Kjaer we could have the solution. And a long-term one as well I might add.

And as he's not only a strong defender but also a rather cultured one too he would even suit our style of play - or the style we all want us to be playing at least. Normally this kind of talent at this age would be out of our league money-wise but because of the clause and his love for Liverpoool we're indeed in the race.

I just hope we make the most of it.

That's the exactly the type of defender we need. Whether or not its Kjaer, I defer to your superior knowledge of the player. The fact that he already has an understanding with Agger is also a plus
