Reds to bid for Kjaer

KK, KHL:

We've got 4 decent CB's at present with Ayala and Kelly coming through (who are both 6.3).

This lad may well be a very talented player, i just think that with money being tight maybe we have a few other areas that need addressing first.

I get you Rafa I really do. But if we can *improve* in other areas, we should do that too. Carra has maybe one season as a fixture in the team and Ayala & Kelly are unproven. In fact I think Kelly's longer term position is right back.

As promising as he sounds KHL, I'd be very surprised if we spent a large part of our budget on a centre-back, when we've got 4 good ones there, and a host of decent youngsters coming through for those two positions also?

We've got one quality striker.

Priorties should ensure we spent whatever cash we have on solving the attacking element of the side.

But he's scored five goals! In only 50 games! That's a better record than Emile Heskey already.

If our transferbudget doesn't exceed £10M I tend to agree.

Why would it surprise you if we spent a sizeable chunk of our transfer budget on a position that isn't priority?

why is this clause, of which khl speaks, not getting mentioned in any of the press articles? is it bollocks?

We could have said that last transfer window, and the one before, and the one before that. Did we bring a striker in then? If we were to bring in Kjaer and Turan, and we could keep hold of our best players (and keep them fit), then next season should be a lot better than this one has been.

There we are then, buy Kjaer for the £9m, that is in KHL's clause and sell Agger for the £15-£20m that KHL says we will get for him, hey presto £5-£10m profit, I think the yanks would go for that 😉

As has been said, it is an area we have cover for, I think our priorities lie elsewhere, but I do like it when players want to come to us.

Like Pennant and Kewell?

Kewell was absolutely class that first season until he got injured.

Pennant was just a twat.

Anyhow, the point is that when a player wants to play for Liverpool rather than just join the club, it definitely strikes a chord with the fans. There's a satisfaction that its not just about money.

All I'm saying is that these chances to sign top-drawer young talent from around Europe on the 'cheap' doesn't come up to often.

As it's also a type of player that we've missed dearly ever since Sami left (apart from a few games where Kyrgiakos did a splendid job) it's obvious that we should be/are looking in to the possibility of signing him.

And it's not completely unrealistic that we'll still get the chance to bolster elsewhere

INS

Kjær: £M9
Arda Turan: £3M + Babel
Jovanovic: Free

OUTS
If Kjær is indeed a target we could probably see us parting with Skrtel and if so he'd probably be on his way for a fee in the region of £8M (Juve was deemed interested at one point).

That'll leave us with only ~£4M spend plus one additional wage hence there's is still room for a few more class additions (or one big one). And as a player such as Pacheco in particular are probably even closer to the starting line-up next Season he'll 'almost' be like a new signing too - hopefully players like Saric will follow troop soon and give us even more options.

PS This is not a Skrtel-out cry by any means but we would look more at balance in the back with a player of Kjær's stature and ability around.

Would it not make more sense to sell Agger though?
Firstly he would attract a bigger transfer fee, in the region of £10-15m.
Also by the sounds of things Skrtel would be a better balanced partner for Kjaer as he sounds similar to Agger but with better heading ability.

They do play together at international level though. Which would be an advantage if they're a good fit. Do they actually play like a partnership, khl?

It's a bit worrying that Austria put two goals past them the other night.

I think selling our most talented defender is a bit silly, even though i understand the cash situation. Skrtel would still raise a decent fee.

Well they didn't really, Agger is injured

Kjaer didn't play particularly well against Austria to be honest. No-one did really. Not at fault for the goals though.

Agger and him have kept a few good cleansheets together in the WC-qualifier against Zlatan and Sweden and generally looked like a 'perfect match'.

One is very strong and great in the air (and on the floor) and the other is very assured on the ball and composed.

The thing for me is that Skrtel and Agger is actually more a like than I would've thought. Skrtel is rather good at bringing the ball out of defense (although not doing it as much) and weak in the air. Pretty much as Agger. But out of the two I'd pick the latter as I do believe he is a little bit better defender overall and particularly in his positioning. (When fit and playing regularly at least).

As a type Kjaer compliements Agger (and Skrtel) better. As do Kyrgiakos in my opinion.

I'm not sure I would be in such a rush to ensure that we have Denmark's centre back pairing together. Certainly not if it costs a heap.
Khl's description makes this guy sound a lot like Agger, I don't know if 2 Aggers would work.

What he said.

I'd prefer our new CB to be strong in the air like Hyypia.

Damage control. Instead of signing Kjaer in the summer we wasted 17 fucking million on a liability at right back.

why not 86% or 88%?

The thing is if you were to describe Sami you'd highlight a few attributes that a player like Agger's got too, that doesn't mean however they are alike.

Kjaer is much more physical in his approach than Agger. He likes to get himself involved in man-to-man duels and he does have a talent for winning headers. As he said himself he feels he is much better suited to the physical approach of the strikers in England having to deal with longballs etc compared to e.g. Spain where defenders are often left alone against Silva-type of players. Fast, small and pacy.

Hmmmm a Johnson-Agger-Kjaer-Insua backline is a bit young for my liking..

Although from what i've read i'd be over the moon with this signing as a long term investment.

I'm not too concerned about the age issue with that line-up, more the fact that Insua is gash

we've got 2 young, exciting stars ( neither of which i've seen ) who are throwing themselves at us. they are clearly fans of the club. i'm very interested how it all pans out.

Kjaer has expressed his desire to team up with Agger at Liverpool.

Don't know whether it has been said elsewhere but he's recently stated his desire to go to Liverpool and play alongside Agger - if the offers right.

"It seems logical", he added.

Today when Rafa was faced with the question whether there's any truth in the Kjaer (and Turan) rumours he refused to comment directly, saying something along the line of; to early to talk about new players.

This is on.
