Reds to bid for Kjaer

Is he much better? Admittedly I haven't seen enough of both of them but Subotic was the one who first caught my eye. Anyway, either of them would be fantastic.

The offspring of Poulsen and Agger?

Agreed, Subotic looks fucking boss
Hummels is head and shoulders above him.
That's not true at all. They are both equally talented players who would improve our team straight away.

I think Subotic is as close as we can get to Hyypia clone with a lil extra pace.

Wow thats some praise. You think Subotic can be one of the greatest defender to play for Liverpool.

Yeah, was my first thought as well - unless he means that "close" is still a fair way away. :-\

Yeah, he does say 'as close as we can get'. I haven't seen anyone who is at the moment as good as Sami was at his peak. However Subotic at 22 is very young for a top class CB (Hyypiä was 26 when he signed) and sky is pretty much the limit on what he can achieve. Would be an exciting signing.

imho what marked sami as special wasn't just his heading ability (which was majestic) it was his ability to read the game.
he hardly ever needed to dive in or make reckless challenges because he knew where to position himself to snuff our danger before it became a problem.
how many times did you see sami make a last ditch tackle? how many yellow cards did sami pick up in a 10 year career?
he had no pace to lose so he was (and is) a consistent performer.
imho second only to jockey as the best ever liverpool defender.

Great post. Especially the point about yellow cards. I remember in the treble season, he played 63 games without getting a single booking. All on his way to being voted on the European team of the year.

I also think Sami is criminally underrated by non-Liverpool fans. I honestly think he was THE best defender in the world in the last decade. Certainly the best defender I've ever seen and that includes your Nestas and Cannavaros.

Hummels is by far the better footballer and has much more brains than Subotic.

Subotic may have a more physical style but Hummels is at least one class above Subotic.

And both are over 1,90 m and weigh about 90 kg.

I think the same. I havent seen Puyol, Nesta and Cannavaro play on a weekly basis. But Sami was the greatest defender I have ever seen. His goal threat, ability to score in CL quarter finals ;D adds another dimension to Sami as a footballer.

Poulsen hair and Agger tattoo's..

is this where the new interest on here in Kjaer comes from ?.............

Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have been alerted to the availability of Wolfsburg’s Simon Kjaer after the German club hinted a summer move could be on the cards.

Reports from Talksport say that Liverpool had an offer turned down for the Danish international in the January window but Steve McClaren’s old side are now apparently willing to sell.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is also rumoured to be interested in the 21-year-old but may have to offload one or two of his central defenders to make room for Kjaer.

The defender could prioritise a move to Liverpool though with Danish team mate Daniel Agger currently playing his football at Anfield.

ready made defensive partnership

🙂

I'd have kjaer as I think he's good and hopefully would be more consistent than skrtel. Saying that however I would still prefer subotic. can't comment on hummels but if he's as half as fos as being made out on here then we should be in for him.

'Kicker' magazine's list of Germany's top defenders.

Hummels tops the list with Subotic being in third position.

Maybe we should get both.

Ya, you have got to give some room for the German bias. There is not a lot to separate between them, and if we are looking for someone who can partner Agger or Wilson in the long run, Subotic would be as good a bet as anyone. But anyway they would ask silly money for him, and this is all probably a moot point.
Aren't Borussia Dortmund running away with the Bundesliga?
They will probably fancy a shot a the Champions league next season as well.
Can't exactly see them breaking up their team and selling their best players as nice as it might be to see some of them play for Liverpool

If as expected we don't have a huge amount to spend this summer, i'll be pretty gutted if we blow a decent wedge of it on another CB.

Signing a new CB should be very very low down on the priority list.

Kelly is already a first teamer and gaining experience not to mention confidence. Move him to the middle because most of us think that he'll be Carra's direct replacement anyway. Magic back to RB, get in Coentrao or Taiwo at LB with Aurelio as an able deputy.

Blow our budget on attacking talent which includes flying wingers.

I see your beloved Mertesacker weighing in at an impressive #30.
After your infamous efforts in 'that' thread I thought you've put it to rest.

Whatever.

Watched a football match in the last few months, Gene? Or do you still prefer reading stats?

Kjær has struggled to adapt in the Bundesliga so far with Wolfsburg, apart from a handful of games he's not shown the same standards as he did in Italy.

However this could be a blessing in disguise for him as a footballer as he haven't - untill now at least - experienced any kind of adversity career-wise. Now he's got every chance to learn from it and come out even stronger than before he left Palermo.

I'm convinced his potential is still massive but now is not the time so spunk big on him. A straight swap with Skrtel - albeit the latter has shown some form of late - would be extremely tempting however.

LOL, there's no need to get upset or defensive about it. I didn't mean to embarrass you and I really don't think there's any need for you to try to be mean to me.

But you have to admit there are some inconsistencies in what your saying about players on here. You want us to take this Hummel chap seriously and you tell us to look at some table of stats showing how good a defender he is. But you ignore what the same stats say about another player you want us to buy, Mertesacker. So either you think the stats are accurate or not. Either way, you're being a silly billy.

The bigger irony is that you then criticize me about stats when just a few posts earlier you've tried to make a case for a player being the best defender in Germany, based on....wait for it.... a table of stats!
