Love the bloke to pieces.
But....is it time to bring in proper competition?
But....is it time to bring in proper competition?
Hes been shaky, something he's admitted himself.
I'd happily bring in a highly thought if young keeper and loan him out (like courtois for chelsea). If reinstall has another squiffy season we have a young player who should know the set up
Of course, we're overlooking former Brazil international and former Roma number 1.
Doni ain't exactly shit.
Lets not be smart Fabio. He is shite.
One= 3
he is undoubtedly still a good keeper, and if he was our biggest concern then the team would be title contenders but its still clear to me that his level has dropped in the last 2 years
But the number of keepers who go on to play possibly their best football in their thirties suggests that the effects of that can be made up for in other ways.
I don't disagree. It's not particularly surprising. The reason he was so good was his agility and reflexes, studies have shown they peak in the mid twenties. Reina will be thirty later this year.
True, added to that, he often played as an auxilary sweeper, racing out of the box to clear danger with foot or head, leaving very few opportunities for the opposition to play long balls over the top for forwards to run onto, he doesnt seem to do that much anymore either. Whether thats due to age slowing him down or a change of tactics its hard to say
Can anyone please name me a keeper who doesn't rely heavily on agility and reflexes?
