Shamelessly stole the title from the amazing @King Binny !

A thread to capture our thinking on who we will get to cover Right Back in the Summer (or not!)

can any of these young cb’s we’re signing do a job there? or is that a stupid question with arne in charge?

Bradley targeting a return this summer. Will be interesting to see what we do. Move Frimpong to RW maybe.

I’d sign Doue from Strasbourg.

I think we'll likely target someone more experienced but a player to keep an eye on is Read at Feyenoord, especially if Slot sticks around.

I haven't seen him a great deal but only 19 and he's been getting linked to the big clubs, Bayern Munich said to be the latest sniffing around.

Slot handed him his debut and he's only got better.

Given we're probably gonna go big on another CB and winger, we'll need to find a younger Munoz, someone who might not be well known but can be picked up for a modest fee and provide even half the impact as a Robbo.

I've seen rumours of Zelik and Mingueza on frees so that maybe the profile we're heading towards.

Rumours are that Mingueza has an agreement with Juventus in place.

He is versatile, experienced, on a lpw salary, and most importantly would be available on a free. He has the word market opportunity stamped on his forehead.

Read is probably the first choice but it depends who we are up against. I don't think we will be blowing big money to fend off City or Bayern.

He's made the mistake of saying he's a fan so Edwards probably expects him to come for free

Alex Jimenez at Bournemouth? He's on loan from Milan with an obligation to buy. Started 16 matches for them, average Whoscored rating 6.63. Listed strengths dribbling, interceptions, tackling, defensive contribution; not great in the air. Spanish U21 international. Has sometimes been deployed further forward.

Haven't watched much Bournemouth and can't recall how he got on against us (although Whoscored gave him his highest rating of the year, a 7.95). The Hughes connection, obviously, plus Bournemouth looking to pull another Hujisen and quickly flip a talent for profit.

Munoz is the best RB in the Prem. He's 30 this year. Why do we need to sign a younger player in the hope that they can fill that position for 10 years? Bradley and Frimpong are 23 and 26 this year and neither can stay fit for 5 mins. Get Munoz on a 2 yr deal. he's mustard. Always available, fuckin rock hard, fast, safe. What's not to love?

I think the first question is what profile we're targeting

This will depend on what our plan at RW is also

We came into this season with Kerkez and Frimpong/Bradley as our full-back options. Both full-backs with wing-back profiles - like to stay high and carry the ball in open space and provide width.

This has however really stressed our build-up play. Robbo and Trent were different profiles. Robbo could bomb up and down the flank, but also very adept and comfortable with the ball at his feet. Trent of course was an anomaly. A complete cheat code at RB - capable of pinging the ball 60 yards any second, and also capable of inverting and play in a 2-2 build up with the two CBs and the DM.

The wing-back profiles we have currently work with a 3 at the back set-up. It's really hurt our build-up play this year. I think with Kerkez finally settling down and making that LB position his own, we need to have a re-think about the RB profile especially if we're continuing to play with a back 4. Bradley has always been terribly injury prone, and Frimpong looks like one of those freakishly fast players who constantly has niggling hamstring issues.

Think we need to cut Bradley loose and use Frimpong further up. RB should probably be a profile who can help us with build-up play. Essentially someone very comfortable with the ball, can either pass progressively or easily invert and help out as a quasi-midfielder.

Anyway, for player options - we've been linked with Givairo Read and Marco Palestra. Both super young and inexperienced though.

I think we need a solid reliable option who can be trusted with heavy minutes

A couple of options I like - Arnau Martinez at Girona and Omar El Hilali at Espanyol. Both the right age profile, plenty of first team experience, and both out of contract in 2027. A good deal to be had with either of them I think
