Robbo

BBC report says offer was agreed at £5m but Robbo not pushing for it. Deal dependant on us being able to recall Tsimikas which hasn’t happened.

Which if all true is rather disappointing

Loaning players to clubs who then don’t play them, with no recall clause inserted 🙃

Andrew Robertson looks set to stay at Liverpool after the Anfield club told Tottenham Hotspur they could not consider his departure as things stand.

Despite talks between the two Premier League sides last week, Liverpool have now pulled the plug on a deal for the Scotland captain.

Tottenham were prepared to pay a package of about £5million for Robertson, who is out of contract in the summer, with Thomas Frank, their under-pressure head coach, seeking more leadership and experience for his squad.

Liverpool had been mindful of Robertson’s outstanding service over the past 8½ years since he signed from Hull City for a bargain £8.5million in the summer of 2017 and also that his future is uncertain at the club beyond the end of the season.

However, having considered the offer, and their alternative options in the position, Liverpool have decided against proceeding with an agreement.
Robertson, who turns 32 in March, came on as a half-time substitute for first-choice left back Milos Kerkez in Saturday’s 3-2 defeat away to Bournemouth, which resulted in Liverpool falling out of the top four in the Premier League after Sunday’s results.

He did not agitate for a move to London and will continue to have a role to play for the remainder of the season as Liverpool attempt to orchestrate an overdue improvement in their league results. They remain in the Champions League and also the FA Cup.

Arne Slot, the head coach, had said after the late loss at Bournemouth that consigned the champions to their seventh defeat of the season, that he wanted to keep all his players. Virgil van Dijk, the club captain, had also emphasised Robertson’s importance, adding that he “wanted him to stay.”

Liverpool had looked into recalling Kostas Tsimikas from a loan spell at Roma, but it is understood the Italian side were reluctant to allow it. Slot knows his defensive resources are somewhat depleted with Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni ruled out for the season due to serious knee injuries.

Joe Gomez was substituted in the first half on Saturday after suffering a blow to the face from team-mate Alisson as they attempted to stop Bournemouth’s opening goal. Ibrahima Konaté has also missed the last two games following the death of his father.

Injury to Tottenham’s Ben Davies means Destiny Udogie is Frank’s only fit, specialised senior left-back.

Frank would like Djed Spence – who has filled in there this season – to push Pedro Porro at right back, while Souza, the 19-year-old left back signed from the Brazilian side Santos on Thursday, is inexperienced at the top level.

it's the right decision, because we don't have another viable option at left back and we're already shipping goals. If a new manager comes in, you'd hope that first and foremost he will use his squad more efficiently, and that's where Robbo will get more than he's getting under this chancer.
