Id rather a defender who was willing to put his body in the way and try to get something on the ball that one who would rather not take the risk. Own goals are an inevitable consequence of this
You will often see an own goal as a result of a dangerous ball played in behind the defence from wide, if a defender sticks a leg out to block/clear the ball there is always a chance it will ricochet into his own net, the alternative is he lets it go and leaves the opposing striker with a tap in. The player who lets it go is abdicating his responsibility as a defender and just hoping the striker misses
Not true, we have Ilori coming up
The long-term plan must be to pair Ilori and Sakho, right? In this case, it would make more sense to sell Agger and let Sakho establish himself as a first-team player while Ilori is coming up.
Maybe Wisdom can also be in the conversation.
2 poor own goals and 1 unlucky deflection in the past 3 games. Coincidence or sign of a real problem?
… and scored a lot of own goals over the years for club and country. Google search for Skrtel own goals nets 157,000 results… Turns out he also scored one for Slovakia in October, they lost the game 1:0.
Anybody know how many OGs he has BTW? Did he catch Carra already?
@King Binny 🙂
Did you see the own goal for Slovakia? He passed the ball back to the keeper and the keeper fucked up.
Poor from both keeper and Skrtel to be honest. He gave the keeper too much to do with that ridiculous pause but the goalie in turn ought to have just thumped it out.

Seriously, Skrtel has nothing to do with that OG.
