It looks like he's going to move for a world record fee and whilst you may argue the prices have been pushed up massively by the likes of Chelsea, City and PSG in recent years, it's still a bit crazy to watch it all unfold. Even moreso when you consider that it was only a few years ago that Ronaldo, one of the best players the game has ever seen, from a much bigger club for much less.

Will it end up representing value for money in the current transfer for Real?

And how do you see his career panning out? Will he have the same sort of impact Ronaldo has had at Real (his record there is fairly mind boggling)?

No. Not good enough as a footballer to represent that much value for Real but since when has that ever held Perez back? Levy has played a blinder because that is what he is worth to Spurs which, at the end of the day, is all that matters. I hope we remember that when Real come a-calling for Suarez.

I think he'll do well at Madrid, but I can't see Madrid breaking Barcelona's stranglehold unless they have a philosophy change. The money is sort of irrelevant in terms of value - Madrid need a big, headline-grabbing transfer because they lost out to Barca for Neymar. That's why they're willing to break the transfer record. It's not a reflection on how much Bale is worth.

Hes very similar to Ronaldo, big, quick, powerful.
I think he'll be sensational.
He's amazing and im so glad hes leaving spurs.

Similar alright, but Ronaldo had accomplished a hell of a lot more before moving to Madrid at a similar age.

I think Bale is a level below him, and while I still think he'll be great he'll be short of what Ronaldo has done there.

I really wonder if Bale and Ronaldo can function in the same side since they're essentially the same type of player. Can a game plan revolve around two Ronaldos? A big reason for Ronaldo's success in Spain is that he's the focal point for the goals. But that's Bale's game too.

It struck me this morning that we could have had our own Bale-Madrid situation.

Michael fucking Owen!

We could have fleeced Madrid for big bucks but Micky Owen had already fucked us over..

Oh and Bale, he'll be good for them.

I still cant understand the size of he fee. Its amazing that spurs can replace Gareth Bale with three £33m players.

Ronaldo is in a different league to Bale. Just look at their goal-scoring stats by way of comparison. Bale is an outstanding footballer, who's just had the best season of his career.

Ronaldo and Messi are in a tier all by themselves, and it will remain untouched by Gareth Bale.

The reported fee for Bale is absolutely insane.

Fee is insane -

I can see him scoring 15-20 goals every year, but he'll never be worth that fee ... unless of course at his arrival, Madrid start winning everything (alla Barca in Pep's 1st year) and then it can be 'Bale added that extra edge' or something.

He's a really good player but I'm curious to see if he can maintain the level he reached last year next year.

I think they'll make their money back in no time on him from his image rights (even though he looks like a fucking extra from planet of the apes).
He's athletic, scores great goals, lives a clean lifestyle - he'll have sponsors all over him over there. They said that beckham was paid for before he'd even played a competitive game for them when he went, they took him out to the far east first and lapped it up.
Ronaldo is Bale's biggest problem. The cheap fucking hooker.

Am I the only one who thinks Bale will fail in Spain?

He's an explosive player with great speed and a powerful shot BUT there's very little finesse to his game; he doesn't have the "tricks", sublime ball control or ability to beat players on a mazy dribble.

Obvioulsy he won't be a total failure but I reckon he'll be back in the Premier League within 18 months with Madrid taking a 50% "hit" on his value.

I think he'll do alright out there. They don't do defending. And half of the league are the equivalent of our league 1 - He'll have a field day running at them.

I think he'll excel in Spainland against slow defenders but be anonymous in the CL against decent oppo.

I like the idea RM are shelling out stupid money. Those Spanishers will soon be shouting 'Bale Out' instead of 'Bail out'.

They also wear white and wave their white hankies but that's another story.

Didn't he destroy Inter a couple times?

Real play a pretty open game and like to counter attack so the likes of Ronaldo have lots of space to run into so Bale in that kind of set up should be fine. It's probably more about how they fit him in tactically and whether he'll be afforded the freedom he was given at Spurs - last season he had a free role.

It's the deal that will wreck the transfer market. Unless every club proceeds to pretend it never happened, it'll lurch them towards the loony bin.

Did anyone watch The One Show last night? There was a nutcase who has a job drawing pictures of people as animals, a retired sports illustrator I believe. So they went through his portfolio and he had his sketch of Bale side by side with a chimpanzee. I don't think the guy even meant it as an insult, it was just his professional opinion as an artist.

Why on earth would a self proclaimed "genius" watch The One Show?

If he goes for anywhere near that it is a colossal waste of money. He's an excellent player, but still overrated. I don't think he's the highest tier of talent. I actually think he could flop.

It's not really about value for Real though, is it? Sometimes its not about football for them either.
