So... Gareth Bale

He'll be a good signing for them. The money is ridiculous and he's worth about half of that.

Why on earth would a self proclaimed "genius" watch The One Show?

My hands were covered in chalk after deriving quantum field theory equations on my blackboard, and I didn't want to get that chalk all over the TV remote because of my OCD.

If he was French he'd be worth about 1/10th of that fee. He's good, but he's not that good. He's always injured aswell.

It'll be interesting to see how he links with Ronaldo. If they hit it off, it'll be awesome. Same with Messi and Neymar.

However, I wonder if Ronaldo's nose might be a bit out of joint and he might fancy a return to the Mancs where he can be top dog.

Madrid just want to break records. The quality of the player seems incidental in this instance. It's an enormous stroke of fortune for Tottenham. We can sing the praises of Levy, but the fact is that Madrid wanted to spend a hideous amount of money on one player. It's a shame, because if Suarez hadn't spent so much time either racially abusing or biting people, or being suspended for such actions, he might have been that player.

If he didn't do that we might have finished 4th and he might have wanted to stay

Stoichkov: "No English player who has come to Spanish football has been a success. If Bale is worth €100m, I am priceless.”

I read somewhere the fee would buy Everton Football Club outright, or the complete Scottish Premier?

I'm really struggling to think of something to say in relation to this picture.

Surely Madrid now hold the massive upperhand with this deal? They could renegotiate the fuck out of it. Spurs will have spent well over 100mill and will be financially ruined if they dont recoup that.
Madrid should tell them 50mill or fuck off. They don't need Bale, but Spurs desperately need to sell him now.

I don't think that's true.

Why is Bale's transfer this protracted though, to the extent that he had to throw a hissy fit by skipping training. If it's over the transfer fee, and if no price is fixed yet, after the all summer outlay by Spurs, wouldn't the ball be in Real's court? Spurs need the financial ahem Bale-out now.

As Macca has said, we should bid for Bale so that Spurs KO the Real deal and then proceed to bid for Bale themselves. It'll be an infinite loop of buying and selling. If they slow down we bid for Bale again.

It is possible to agree a fee and make it subject to certain conditions - getting replacements or whatever etc.

I would imagine the fee is agreed, Spurs are in the middle of doing their business and will sign off Bale very soon.

They're not going around spending money they won't have.

I've always been under the impression our paperwork delay with Suarez could only be explained by the deal being contingent on the sale of Torres. The Suarez deal got approval at exactly the same time as the Torres deal was announced and the financial state of the club would indicate that was the case too.

Spending 100-120mill quid in one window with no champions league football? Even if they had that coming in it might only be an extra 20mill. Spurs have had a net spend over the last few years of 10-20mill max.

Doesn't really explain the 35m desperation bid for Carroll though..
According to the Newcastle fella we offered 20m, they said no, and we suddenly went back with 35m. I love Commolli.
