So if Rafa came back..........

It was blatantly obvious masch and torres would improve in better teams. Gerrard entered his peak years under rafa.

Obvious to who? More than half this site didn't want Torres in the first place because he didn't score enough goals. They were all clamouring to sign Etoo.instead. There was less resistance against Mash, but there where still people complaining about us singing a player that wasn't good enough to be in the first team.

For torres, I agree not in the finishing stakes. I thought he was a scorer of great goals rather than a great goal scorer, but It was obvious he was massively talented.

Mascherano, another massive talent who wasn't given a fair crack of the whip at West Ham. Anyone who had seen them play knew they had massive potential

Sorry, but you are rewriting history with your original statement. I wanted both those players, and I remember many arguments breaking out on this site, over whether they were good enough.

With the benefit of hindsight, it's all well and good saying it was obvious they were going to improve. But at the time it wasn't obvious, and even the people that wanted to sign them would have admitted that. We were after all signing a non-goalscoring striker that had been moved to play as a winger, and a midfielder that had failed at a club destined for relegation.

EDIT: Also, even after Masch played for us on loan. Many, many people didn't think he was good enough to justify the £18Million fee.

Fair enough ref. Prob am remembering wrong, but I thought loads of people acknowledged he would be big talent. The debate (I think), was that we needed a finisher (sounds familiar) and torres didn't fit that bill.

As for Mascherano... Yeah you're right re: the fee.

I think I wanted him because I was happy with a 1 in 3 striker who might improve.

There were some weird opinions about him. I even remember a few people claiming he had no pace (actually, on this site that isn't very strange).

Playing Crouch and Voronin on the wings ... That was a special night that was. At least we know if he gets the job, Kuyt will be happy.
He wasnt too happy when he was supplied with Pennant ened Zenden of CL final in Athens, even though Crouch had been playing very well and linking up with him to cause plenty of trouble. These selections are as crazy as the ones we have seen in the last 12 months.

I have to admit that I wanted him gone two years ago. But I started regretting it as soon as we hired Hodgson.

Well this is the problem. Just because Hodgson was a fucking awful choice it doesn't automatically mean that we should have kept Benitez!

Looking back on the old thread my opinion was that I was sad to see Rafa go even though I felt it was the right thing for him to do. I still respect Rafa for what he achieved for us and I think with him the good outweighs the bad. I also believes that he is genuine in his love for the club and the city of Liverpool
I haven't appreciated though his comments, and there were several recently, that he would love to manage Liverpool again, which I took to be at best a bit of self promotion and at worst covert destabilising of the Dalglish regime.

If they choice for our next manger is going to be from a group containing Rafa, Martinez, Rogdgers, etc then I can't for the life of me see why we sacked Kenny in the first place

I agree with that.

And the last part I am optimistically hoping means that the owners actually have someone decent lined up. Most of what we have heard is speculation so far.

If Rafa comes back that TV show on Fox Soccer Channel is going to start with him getting out of the shower, Bobby Ewing style, and saying that the last two seasons have been a weird dream.

Which means that each of us is like a little bit of Victoria Principal.

If I was Victoria Principal and then I would look at myself in the mirror extensively. Though probably not now. Back then.

Well I don't know if they belong to any of us but I suspect that there are plenty of Victoria Principle's bits that weren't originally hers

but without the breasts, well, maybe ross has breasts.

Mirror reporting we've approached Rafa, but only cos Rodgers wouldn't come.

Makes no sense whatsoever, & reeks of bullshit journalism.

Not going to happen, I think AVB will be our new manager. I'd prefer Rafa to all but Klopp (even though he also makes me think of Allo Allo) but AVB or Martinez is what we're getting.

Shite. This is going to happen isnt it.
Third straight time the mans have hired someone I dont want as manager.
🙁

I can't quite recall my previous hatred anymore, and I actually want him back ahead of any of the other candidates. Maybe after his first post-match interview all the memories will come flooding back and I'll switch on him.

I wouldn't be overly surprised if our next manager isn't someone being currently touted in the media.
