So, Luis to Barca.....

one thing that is getting on my medium sized man boobs , while he's with us we come under all sort of abuse and pressure due to his behaviour . Once he signs for them cunts everyone in world football will 'forgive' him . They're already giving him lots of praise for doing what he should have done long time ago , say "sorry" . And you just know they'll get his ban reduced .
That will change once he bites again, which looks sadly inevitable. I really love the guy but he's got serious mental problems.

Do people actually want Sanchez?

I mean, if the option was 40M-odd plus Sanchez, is that a better option than just 70M -odd straight cash money?

Pretty gutting no matter what fee we get. I hate having to sell our best player, particularly when we seem intent on using a large chunk of the money received to buy as many Southampton players as possible.

Barca will do what it takes to close out this transfer as there isn't really an alternative for them. We need to be getting a great fee, not a reasonable one.

If we were Chelsea or Man City, no.
But it seems difficult for us to secure that signings of that profile & stature. Sanchez signing would guarantee a replacement.

Yep, it's easier to find one top quality player than two. We bring in Sanchez plus £40m, it's half the job done. I think he's brilliant and he's got alot of the potential characteristics that Luis has in the way he plays.

Anyway, I hope everyone has accepted that we're going to get Barca in the CL.

Yep. Fucking inevitable. As is Suarez decimating our back line all night.

Regardless of his idiotic biting tendencies, I'll be pissed off when he leaves, both because him being a dickhead has cost us serious money, & cos it's meant that we have to let the most exciting, & skillful player I've ever seen in the flesh at their peak leave.

Though I fear this was inevitable, & last summer we knew, maybe even agreed with him, that he'd leave this summer.

If we have to convince him to come to us over Arsenal then I'd say perhaps he's not the kind of player we're looking for. I'd take trophies over lifestyle any day of the week. If that's the situation, I'd opt for cash, although I would hope it would be closer to £80m once we're done with negotiations.

I'd rather keep a player who will score 25-30 goals in his games and give us a chance to win the league and Europe when he returns, than the unknown. Better the devil you know.

I'd rather keep him aswell and I hate the fact that we're selling him. But it will happen.
He wants the move and Barca will pay the release clause or close to it.

I dont think we would have asked for Sanchez at all if we didnt already know from talks with his agent that he could be interested. It will all boil down to wheter or not we can convince him to choose us and not Arsenal or Juve.

Perhaps everyone can take solace in the fact that Luis Suarez is a nasty little cunt, and has been a smear on this football club pretty much from start to finish.

Besides, as has been pointed out by others, there are numerous examples of top players leaving clubs and them improving as a team (not to mention the fact that we were top of the league at Christmas last year despite him missing half of our games). I'm quite excited to see what we can do with £70/80m. Of course it's racked with uncertainty, but if we get it right this could be just the launchpad we need.

I don't like the sounds coming out of the negotiations being 'constructive' and so on. Barca are clearly trying to avoid paying the full whack. Pay it, or fuck off.

Barca dont want an auction though, and they're under a bit of pressure trying to get this deal done.
The reports in the Spanish press suggests everything is close to being done, while the English had quite another take on it.

Really the circus surrounding him wherever we go would NOT be a good thing no matter how it's spun. And there is a very good chance he could set another record with #4. Then our devil will be gone for a season or more and be getting over the hill when he returns. I think this transfer is in everyone's best interest though I'm really, really, sad it came to this.

Reus would be brilliant. He said a while back that he was staying though and the release clause he's got in his contract might not be valid until 2015. But if Sanchez turns us down, I'd a least make a bid for him.

Juve surely are not in the picture unless they sell one of their current stars, Vidal or Pogba, neither of which they want to.

Arsenal are being tight-fisted again, supposedly having offered €25,001 for Sanchez whilst our offer is in the €35-40M range. There is no chance Barca will accept that and Arsenal would need to substantially up their offer.

Arsenal will probably do that aswell. I'm guessing wages will be pretty similar aswell.

It makes more sense to Barca, for them to sell to us, as it gives them more leverage in having him as a makeweight in the deal (obviously). I guess it all comes down to how things progress with Sanchez and whether we can sell ourselves to him. Arsenal still have a good rep in Europe as being similar in style to the Spanish sides, I guess that's as much of the attraction as London is.

Like I've said elsewhere, we'd worship him, he'll have seen that with Suarez, Torres, Alonso etc. I hope that swings it.

I'm told by Maltese relatives who support Juve that reports in Italy say they've dropped their interest in Sanchez and switched their attention to Iturbe.

Unfortunately being a Barca player, he's probably had the ex Arsenal contingent talking them up in his ear.

John Henry needs to step up again and ask what the Catalans are smoking if they try to knock £20m off the price of world's most sought-after striker, writes Brian Reade

The price is right: Liverpool must not fall for Barcelona's favourite transfer-market tactic
It’s good to see Barcelona’s camper-van turn up at this summer of footballing love with flowers in their wipers and peace signs on the windows.
Good to see this font of all righteousness take a moral lead by urging the world to turn the other cheek to a repentant sinner.

“Luis Suarez has been humble enough to apologise to those he has offended... it’s the best thing a person can do,” says Barca’s sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta here.
“He is an honourable man,” intones club president Josep Maria Bartomeu here.

Once again, the institution that so modestly calls itself “more than a club” is looking after the oppressed.
Just as they did when they urged Arsenal to allow that poor missing child Cesc Fabregas to return home (on the cheap) and Liverpool to “act humanely” and release a “depressed” Javier Mascherano into their care (on the cheap).

Tiki-taka may be dead, but tacky-tacky is still the Barcelona way when it comes to tapping up the world’s best players then haggling for a massive price reduction on humanitarian grounds.
And, in the Neymar case, forgetting to pay their taxes.
Of course, it takes two to tango and in Suarez they have a man who’ll dance to any tune so long as it suits him.

Liverpool and their fans have been mocked for being defenders of the indefensible when it comes to Suarez. But this time, among most of them, there’s little appetite to go on the defensive.
At best, the Chiellini bite was embarrassing, the justification excruciating, the late apology grovelling and the lack of consultation, or concern for the club that stood to pay him £3million for a four-month absence from football, was sobering.

To wise ears, that apology was more a legal statement on the “Anything else you would like to tell us about yourself” section of his Barcelona job application form (salary already agreed).
It sounded like a man who’d been caught in a brothel on a stag trip and instead of apologising to his wife, begged forgiveness from his mistress.

In an ideal world, Suarez would come out and apologise to Liverpool for letting them down, again, and being banned, again, and vow to honour the five-year contract he signed at Christmas.
Which he may be forced to do if Barcelona refuse to meet his get-out price.

But right now, all he offers are the familiar depressing noises about being let-down by the club (apparently, Brendan Rodgers offended him by saying he wasn’t missed during his lengthy suspension for biting Branislav Ivanovic) and how he needs to escape the persecution of the British media.
As far as Liverpudlians are concerned, for the second summer running he’s become the big brown floater that’s closed down the hotel swimming pool. And if he stays against his will again, the chances are it will happen next summer.

Do Liverpool really need to lower themselves, begging someone to stay who doesn’t want to be there?
They’re back in the Champions League, meaning the £80m they want for Suarez would give them a great chance of attracting three world-class players - unlike Spurs who weren’t able to fully exploit the Gareth Bale windfall because the top performers don’t want Thursday night football.

Suarez is a major reason they are back in Europe’s elite, which is why few Kopites will feel any lasting anger towards him if his release clause is met and he gets what he wants.

That’s all it’s about now for Liverpool - remembering the most sought-after striker in the world is under long-term contract to them. And playing hardball.
If those hip Catalans believe they are about to engage in a reality-changing, summer-long pow-wow that knocks his price down by £20m, it’s time for John Henry to step up to the plate again.
And ask them what kind of dope they’re smoking over there.
