I said it in the "£70m" thread, but if we spend near that amount and only sign the likes of Henderson, Adam, Dann, Downing, Wickham, Enrique etc I won't be too happy or optimistic.

I'd be happy with that if there was one big foreign signing ala Suarez, someone to get excited about. I'm happy with that lot because I think they'll bed in well and keep it simple and play good football and give us balance too, without being too flash, which is why we need the cherry on the cake.

To be honest, if we signed Mata or Hazard on top of that I'd be happy.

I just have some reservations with that lot. I've never seen too much from Henderson, admittedly I've only seen him play a handful of times. Adam, while good technically can leave you exposed and since we don't have a top class defensive midfielder I feel he could do more harm than good. Dann - see Henderson plus injury prone. Downing has been a run of the mill premier league player for years now. Wickham, I'd be happy with given his potential. And finally Enrique, who was poor in his first season in this league with Newcastle but has had a decent season this year, which is his true level?

It's all a lot of money to spend when a huge bulk of it is far from established quality.

The left side of the side is stronger than last season but there isn't enough of an improvement to be happy or excited about the coming season. If we can also add a classy defensive mid and a pacy matchwinner i'll be much happier.

the side isn't overly exciting but it is balanced so an improvement on what we have.
It's an improvement, no doubt. But a £70m+ improvement? I'm not so sure.

I'd like more up front ideally.

If Carroll gets injured or doesn't live up to expectations then we aren't left with much. Another striker would be useful I think

This.

For the fairly serious money we are throwing at it we will still have a side which only just about matches up with our competitors towards the top, it's all well and good buying young english players for the future but we need a bit more ooomph right now to have a good chance of getting in the Champs league. Being out of it 1 year was bad enough 2 years disastrous .... 3??

Doesn't bare thinking about.

If we do have big cash to splash then we should look at splashing it on a really fucking good attacking player IMHO, and a big name into the bargain wouldn't do us any harm either!

Downing and Henderson were not anywhere near the top of my list.

In fact the mere mention of Stewart fucking Downing upsets me.

Sorry to post this but just wanted to know how people on here feel about the scums signings and whether people are worried about them next season. jones for 16m, De Gea for 18 m, now Young's reps are in talks with them. another 16 m. thats 50 m right here. they also want sneijder. where are the bastards getting the money from?

Sadly there is no point worrying about United. They are at the top and will be strong anyway. We need to do what we can to make them worry about us basically.

Meh. Top 4 will be a fight but possible. Title would be near impossible. Not enough quality.

Are you selling/given up on Cole?

I think you'll find a few more young english players coming in. Managers are wise to the pending UEFA regs and the possible home grown player rule coming in. So are snapping up the younsters on longer deals now solves both problems.

Ben Arfa would be a good buy in Jan, if he can come back to the previous form after the broken leg.

Given the amount of money spent to produce that team, it should be better really, shouldn't it?

We need another Suarez basically - an attacking signing that has the potential to become a star and win games on his own.

If we get one, I'll regard the summer as a success.

Agreed. A top drawer attacking signing would make my summer.

Though we really should be after a top of the drawer DM and CB as well.

Yup, another Suarez will do.

You see if i had the purse strings i would be trying very hard to convince cavani to join up with is international teamate.... but thats just me.... and i am aware he is not everyones cup of tea.

Im pleased we signed Henderson, although i would have prefered it if we had got rid of Ngog in the deal, i really want shut of the dead wood, Cole,Jova,Aqua

And Poulsen and the left back whose shite whos name has happily deserted me (!!!??)

Get rid of them and then bring in a star or at least somebody not for the future but for right now.

That team up at the top looks OK it really does and it defo contains more depth than what we have right now but it lacks star quality.... in every sense...

Throw Hazard in and Bob's your uncle. Plenty of potential there but I daresay a matchwinner of hazard's calibre is a must.

I think this will be how we line up on the opening day of the season...

.......................................... Reina...................................

Johnson..............Carragher......Skrtel.................Enrique

..............Gerrard..............Lucas..........Henderson

Suarez................................................................Downing

.......................................... Carroll...................................

Summer signings:
Doni
Dann
Enrique
Henderson
Adam
Downing
Wickham

I'm not sure the same 11 players will start every week y'know.
Plenty of rotating and tinkering. Something Rafael Benitez got canned for, but when any other manager does it, it's fine.

Has an English team ever won a domestic treble?
League, FA cup and League cup?

Our English-only 11 (bar goalie) is now good enough for at least a top 8 finish.............

Flanagan-------------Carra------------Kelly---------------Robinson

Henderson---------Shelvey----------Spearing-----------Glenjo
-------------------------------Gerrard------------------------------------
-----------------------------------Carroll-----------------------------------

We could be adding Wickham to that which would involve dropping Shelvey, Gerrard to CM and Wickham up front with AC.

I do get a bit annoyed with this "we need a top foreign sexy name" attitude.

Teams win the league with a mix of top english and foreign talent, we don't have to have another big fancy foreign name, we need a quality team that plays like a team.

I am happy with our targets, trust Kenny

I'd go with that Fox, we need a bit more flair though in the final third.

Flair this man can provide:
