Said he's taking a year off out of football.
Thanks. That was the piece of info I was missing.
Said he's taking a year off out of football.
kenny doesn't need 100m, he needs roughly about 30m (for a world class CM) and a different tactical approach (that commits more bodies to the attack).
Well now that we have attacking full backs and it is all going so swimmingly.Do you still seriously think all we need is a central midfielder? If we have 30m to spend this summer and we spend it all just on a CM, i'll cry.
Well I think we need 5 top players, (and a good manager but that's by the by), so you're looking at the guts of 75-100M to get that mate.
Regardless, I can't see them giving Kenny beyond 20M this summer, can you?
I think we can improve the team if we spend shrewdly.
Look at the players Valencia have managed to get since they sold off their crown jewels. Ditto Newcastle. Ditto a lot of other clubs.
The road to recovery will start when we take more of a tier 2 club approach in the transfer market and stop trying to make grand Real Madrid esque statements in the transfer market. Unless you can attract the premier talent it's really not worth doing.

that's where our problems lie, anyone with eyes can see it. we aren't solid enough in CM hence we can't commit bodies going forwards (because we're terrified of the counter attack) resulting in isolated attackers and half chances and we don't give enough shield to the defenders hence an inability to keep consistent clean sheets. plain as the nose on your face.
But its been the worst year in Premier League history for defences Fab. We still conceded a goal a game.
I think its dangerous to think we dont need to worry about the defence at all.

I agree and disagree at the same time.that's where our problems lie, anyone with eyes can see it. we aren't solid enough in CM hence we can't commit bodies going forwards (because we're terrified of the counter attack) resulting in isolated attackers and half chances and we don't give enough shield to the defenders hence an inability to keep consistent clean sheets. plain as the nose on your face.
No it's not, anyone with eyes can see our problem is with our attacking players/wingers. The reason our strikers look isolated is because there is no one to link the midfield to them.
I think I am kinda in agreement over the central midfield needing improvement, based on the fact that I can't think of a successful team that has not had a really strong central midfield.
The central midfield absolutely needs improvement. It's not good enough right now.
Strengthening our attack will give us the biggest bang for our buck though. Focusing all our resources on the midfield area will send us down the incremental improvement trap that Rafa often fell foul of.
I disagree. we could play a front 3 of gerrard, suarez and carroll, push them right up to the final third and give them a platform so they don't have to drop deep to collect the ball and I think they would dominate opposition defenders. currently with our current set up they would have to drop deep to collect the ball, make alonso-esque passing to find each other and be no where near carroll when he wins the first ball.
our attackers oare better than they are showing but they are being played with too little support for them to show what they are capable of.
if we continue buying attackers without changing the foundations the results will be exactly the same unless the attacker is so good he doesn't NEED support.
I understand what you want us to do Spidey. I think that ideally we'd all want that kind of football.
There is a huge gaping flaw in your argument though. We played like that at the peak of Rafa's reign and still regularly struggled to break teams down who parked the bus. Then we had the arguably the best midfield in the league, Gerrard at the peak of his powers and the most lethal number 9 in the country.
Now we have a Gerrard that's spent the last two years dogged by injuries and struggling to recapture his previous level, a no.9 that has spent the last 12 months struggling to show any kind of form and still has question marks hanging over his head. Which leaves us with Suarez.
There is no question that pouring men forward is more likely to get us goals but the problem here isn't just with the manager and tactics. It's the players we have. It's all one big mess.
If we brought back Maschareno and Alonso at the peak of their abilities, we'd still struggle to score goals. Why? Because like the last time they were here, our attackers aren't good enough to break down opposition defences.
At least 5 players. People keep focusing on the starting line up. We need back ups as well.Well I think we need 5 top players, (and a good manager but that's by the by), so you're looking at the guts of 75-100M to get that mate.

And where did we finish?
In 08/09 we lost the title because we failed to break lesser teams down. How many times under Rafa did we see us camped in the oppositions half and fail to get the three points?
We've seen that happen enough under Kenny this season.
Sacking the manager at Juve won them the title the year afterwards.
Sacking AVB won them the FA cup and possibly the CL.
