So who do we want/expect/hope?

my issue with AVB is the same as when he joined chelsea ,. that despite his one amazing season with Porto he doesn't have much experience at all . He needs to go to a valencia , A.Madrid or a Roma and prove he can do it there also .

But again we don't seem to have much choice of experienced managers .

It is not fucking possible that we will hand the job to someone totally unproven anywhere but a minor league instead of giving King Kenny one more season... Please say that he was sacked as part of a bigger plan where Pep Guardiola came in bringing with him a few pass-and-move attacking lads, or at least half of that!!

at this point though, what makes us that much better than valencia, a. madrid, or Roma, besides our history? What makes you think that, say AVB goes to those places and gets a ton of experience and wins everything, that we would then be able to attract him to LFC? We are Liverpool is not a good enough answer.

Well i am more than aware of that and where we currently are . But are we ready to give up on the idea of challenging for the title and accept say 4th as a massive success ? Or are we happy to get a manager who might make the 1st step of getting back in the champs league but then won't be able to take us further? .

I want a manager who can be the best although yes i do concede we might have to face the reality that will not happen and we're going to be a second tier team for some time .

Anyway, experience schmexperience.

De Matteo might be a Champions League winning coach by tonight but Woy was 50 million times better than him with the same West Brom players.

Rafa to Madrid, Jose to us. Sorted.

I know his team didn't finish too high up and he's not young but considering he's got a very small net to draw players from and he has his team playing attractive in your face pressing football, quite an English style, what about Bielsa? Why do you not think he's being considered?

Bielsa hasn't been considered because he would need an interpreter to get through his interview.

Rafa is the standout candidate of that lot; and in terms of tactical nous he would run rings around them.

But let's be clear here; Rafa wasnt sacked only because of our results; that just made it easier to do it; he was a difficult man to work with.If things didnt work out well it wouldnt be that shocking to see him on the blower to The Lizard telling him that Ian Ayres was shit and didnt support him enough ; how can anyone imagine Rafa working well with a DOF or some other person whom he had to take instructions from?

I shudder to think what would happen if Henry told Rafa to focus on the team and he pulled that shit with him.

He will put on track suits?

On a serious note, i'm amazed at how many people actually want Rafa back on here considering the nature of the feeling towards the man at the end of his last reign.

Unlike when we hired Roy, for me there are at least 4 managers who we could get who i'd be quite excited about, so i've got the feeling i'll be happy enough who ever we opt for.

It is like getting back together with an ex. At first you are like "This is great! Why did we ever break up?!". Then 3 months later you are like "Oh...".

Kenny, you're boss.

There's two factors that mean I've reconsidered firstly I don't trust the owners enough to believe they are capable of attracting a top manager, nor capable of being astute enough to ensure they get the next top manager.

Secondly, we seem to have 30m tops to work with, & getting into top 4 is imperative next season, rafa is the only name that we could realistically get on that list who could do it.

I still have some reservations, but given those aforementioned factors I have to admit, he's the best choice.

Who are those, mate? Genuine question.

So what's the current thinking then? Is there actually some chance they'd go for Rafa? Because I never thought it was a possibility, personally.

Depends what paper you read or what itk you listen to, as many saying he's in the frame as are saying he's out.

Tbh none of the itk or papers have any better than a 60% success rate of late so who knows.

That's because most fans haven't got a clue.

Peter, I reckon you've been right all along. I can't see Rafa having changed sufficiently to be willing to work in with a management structure headed by a DOF, nor can I see FSG being willing to risk it. He'd probably do a better job than some of the names mentioned so far, but I just don't see any way in which it would be a practical proposition given the two viewpoints (Rafa's and FSG's) involved.
