So who do we want/expect/hope?

the truth of the matter is my number one choice is now AVB.
I love rafa to pieces, I love the man and I love his tactics and our european adventure was incredible when you consider the players we had at the time but I think it's time for a clean break.
a clean, fresh start for the new man in a new structured liverpool.

reasons for wanting AVB despite his chelsea fuck up
1) my ego 😉
I have my personal views of football, of tactics, set up and approach and AVB falls pretty much directly in line with it. it will be like 'me' being in charge (but with better hair).

2) he was fucked over royally at chelsea.
he was confronted by senior players who had way too much power and worse had the ear of owner. at liverpool the key players (imho) at 27 years old and under, and have the attributes to carry out his instructions to the letter. the old guard at liverpool are either on the fringes of the first and most certainly don't have the ear of henry.

3) the chelsea experience (you'd think) would make stronger, older, wiser.
he now knows what the journos are like, he now gets the pace of premiership, he has now dealt with the expectations and compeition for a top 4 finish and he is young enough to have learnt from those mistakes.

AVB is my number one choice to manage liverpool (excluding the frankly unrealistic targets)

interesting the AVB is second only to rafa (not included in the shortlist according to barret) and klopp (who has said he is not going to leave BVB).
martinez not a popular choice with liverpool fans.

However many people may want him, I for one don't. Those of you who do are giving him a free pass far too easily for his f'ck-up at Chelsea. Such things are never just one side's fault.

not a free pass, more like I don't put it down to ineptitude and neither to do the yanks hence the interview. also it's my belief the DoF is in place and may admire the style and tactics.

you could make arguements for and against AVB and martinez but for me AVB is more experienced (not 'much' more but more non the less).

Don't get me wrong i wouldn't be up in arms if he did come back, but personally i think we should be looking for someone else. As someone who used to stick up for Rafa, it just seems strange that so many posters who i recall wanting him out are appearing to forget the reasons why they wanted him sacked in the first place (not meant as a dig). I mean just one case in point, Rafa got quite rightly battered for what he did in his last few transfer windows, yet now those same people are willing to trust him with our kitty once again?

I want us to try and find a young new potential LFC legend, so i'd be willing to give Martinez, Lambert or Boas the nod before i invited Rafa back. I know as it stands that none of them tick all of the boxes, yet in different ways they all have impressive records.

Neil: not putting it down to ineptitude is giving AVB a free pass. I happen to think he is a talented manager who may well grow into a very good one, but he hasn't done so yet and made an appalling porridge of that job. It was too much for him this early in his career, and getting him on the rebound now would leave me apprehensive of the consequences.

What has happened to you? Is this the keeper of the Benitez shrine I see?

Agree first para.100%, but not the second. I'm not sold on the idea of a young manager for us in our current situation, though I'd be happy enough to sign such a person up as an assistant to learn the ropes alongside somebody more experienced with a view to taking over in a few years' time.

I also think he is going to grow into a great manager and (imho) it's worth taking a gamble it's with us. someone posted a list of top managers jobs before their 'big' job and it makes for stark reading. sometimes you've just got to take a chance and what didn't work for chelsea will work spectacularly or us.

Villas Boas is the stand out for me, next to De Boer.

Rafa. I can see why a lot of fans want him back, but I dont think its the right choice. Onkys post/speech summed it up quite nicely for me yesterday.
I doubt he has changed so much that the insane press conferences, benching of players in form, stubborness and the negaive approach have changed dramatically.

It would be a step back or sideways, and thats not what we need.
We need a fresh start, someone who wont devide fans with old issues from the first kick and some new ideas.

Been there and moved on. Let it stay like that.

Well, your point about the transfer kitty is somewhat moot due to the DoF or GM.

De Boer's someone I'd definitely be looking at.

Read in the Echo that we wanted to do this whole process behind closed doors, 20 mins later Whelan was on tv.

They also said that Kenny didnt reject a pay off, but was compensated generously. Well deserved aswell.

His Inter team played in a much more attacking vein than Maureen's. He wants to control the pitch, and his players to have discipline, but most players are so stupid that playing a disciplined role improves them.

I think it would be a dreadful appointment. When you're putting a fire out it's probably best not to splash petrol all over it.

Rafa is probably the best coach we have had in a long while. Even Igor Biscan and Traore did a decent job under him. He had other failings, but if we want just a coach and if Rafa is willing to work in that set-up ....then why not?

Because (a) that second one's a mighty big "if" and (b), even if things started out that way, it probably wouldn't last. I don't think Rafa could restrain himself for any length of time from trying to gain complete control again.

Maybe so Doc, but he fell out with Moratti from the get go.

I cant stomach another tenure with internal fights being done through the press.
That is one of the key points of not wantng him back. We need stability and fresh ideas.
This back me or sack me thing isnt what we need at all.
