So who do we want/expect/hope?

liverpool is a much bigger club than dortmund with a higher ceiling. if he doesn't come it will be because he eventually wants a bigger club than us.

Or that he wants to finish what he's started at Dortmund and not risk his reputation at somewhere like Liverpool, which needs a LOT of work.

You shouldn't belittle Dortmund. They have a massive stadium with I think the 3rd best league attendance in Europe ? Something like that. They qualify for the CL 4 out of every 5 years and can challenge for said cup too. As Ryan almost said ... I think only an exorbitant salary could persuade a German to leave Dortmund or Munich.

i'm not but, as krump keeps saying, we are in the top ten richest clubs in the world.

I dont know what type of manager we need, I just hope we get one that is strong enough to tell Carragher and Gerrard that the club and supporters will always be grateful for everything they have done but this is the start of a new dawn. This decison will be easy with Carragher and whilst Gerrard still has his moments, the years of carrying the team have caught up with him and where does he fit into the team. Also whenever he plays the rest of the team switches off thinking Stevie G will sort everything out, those days are gone.

My one problem with Kenny is that he bought into the whole heart of the team was the two local lads which for me is pure bollocks and disrepectful to the likes of Agger, Riena and Kuyt.

The owners have cleared the management team, I just hope we find a strong manager who doesnt look back and while Gerrard may have a season or two left in the tank we need to start planning the future without him. He can`t play as DM never had the patience for that type of role and I don`t see him playing behind the striker again as per the days with Torres.

It will be brave man who finally pulls the trigger on the two local lads but as the club seems (I hope)to moving into the future, the next manager or DOF should in my opinion should firstly get Carragher out of the club as I think he has way too much influence in the dressing room and Gerrard will end up a bit part player the same as Robson at United.

People may call me disrepectful but hanging on to players is what kills clubs, the Liverpool of old were always ruthless with players, that is one thing from the past I would like to see return.

excellent post westred and one I completely agree with (but I do think we can get more out of gerrard if we use him properly).

Well if you're going to be pedantic, then we're richer than most club as they're laden with debt or require money from outside sources to purchase players.

given his age and where he is at this stage of his career you move for a top 4 side in england (or a top 2 side in spain) and you make sure the club is cash rich. we just don't tick any of those boxes, unless as ryan says we quadruple his wages.

which we could easily do.

I heard a radio city podcast with st. john and great player though he was, he is utterly UTTERLY fucking clueless. if you want to get anywhere in football just listen to what st. john has to say and do the exact opposite, you wont go far wrong.

i just can't see the yanks going for rafa as they will surely want to put their own personality on the club this time.

robbing scolari's jokes?
god that's dull.

Why does everyone create a 'list' of managers? We'll never incorporate all of them and the formations are diabolical, it's kinda 1-1-1-1-1.

for the record ayre has confirmed that steve clark is still at the club but is on holiday in the states.
Yeah we have some continuity. Ah but then he has not won and league titles yet or has he with Chelsea? Curiouser and curiouser.

Have they specifically ruled out anyone at all though? Other than Kenny of course.

Who knows what they will do obviously but I really hope they don't think that giving the job to Benitez is a good idea.

You are having a laugh

What did Evans ever achieve as a Liverpool manager?.. sure he played nice football.. but was tactically clueless at times..

He was in charge during our most barron spell in recent times..

Ayre has said the following

"No-one is saying we didn't enjoy winning the Carling Cup and getting to the FA Cup final but ultimately the backbone of football now is the Premier League and European football at the highest level.
"It was important we moved forward in that direction and results are what mattered this year."

From a commerical point of view he is right, football is all about generating revenue which would then be reinvested back into the team.

Domestic cups just don`t generate enough revenue, I was at the Carling Cup final great day, loads of drama and was nice to have some silverware again but the Liverpool of old back in the 80`s enjoyed winning the Milk Cup and then got back to back to winning titles and European Cups.

Really successful teams will always get to Cup Finals, looks at United for that but we need to finally get back to our bread and butter which is the league.

We are running out of time keep missing out on the CL and the club could drift for years....I expect that as the club are now stating that the league and CL are the main focus we can`t be looking at the likes of Lambert, it has to be an established manager...

Ayre is talking the talk lets see what happens over the next few weeks, if Martinez takes over it is all talk, if it someone like Klopp or AVB we could be in for an exciting time....

This club in my opinion has held on to the past for too long, Kenny I will always feel deserved more time but our owners have shown they will make brave decisons let hope they actually really do have a plan to move us forward and create new legends whilst always remembering our past but not being held hostage to it........
