We should, and I think Edwards/Hughes will obviously do this, is to evaluate the candidates that fit our strategy, playing style, squad and tactics. We can't turn into Utd who swap managers that are even remotely suited or similar and then spend each transfer window playing catch up. Thats a recipe for ending up like those cunts.

Any new manager must be a good fit for whats already here, future transfer strategies and long term planning in terms of player logistics, squad, culture and transfers.

Xabi would be excellent imho. He knows the club, league and has already a pedigree of winning trophies.
His favored 3-4-2-1 would be very suited to our squad I reckon.

Signing Guehi as the left sided CB, Virgil in the middle and Konate/Leoni/Gomez as RCB.
Kerkez and Frimpong/Bradley would be great as wing backs, and you would get the best out of Wirtz/Szobo as the 10s. Wirtz in his favored left sided 10 role.
Isak and Ekitike are excellent as the nr 9.

Strange to hope that City win tomorrow and that Xabi could get fired, but it would solve a lot for us.
This bothers me a little though. We build a squad and get the first team and youngsters all playing with one philosophy - currently Slots pedestrian 'control'. It makes perfect sense but change becomes such a massive job that it creates inertia to stick with what we've got.

Imo that’s a big reason why Slot won't leave before summer, however results go. The lack of managers available before the summer is another big factor. I don't think Alonso becoming available changes the thinking, unfortunately.

Oh I think it’d change the frame completely…not that we’d go out and sack Slot the next day…but we’d be more proactive in doing so in the New Year if Xabi makes clear he doesn’t need a prolonged break and is keen to get on with his next club (and his preference was Liverpool).

If Xabi is available and keen - and results don’t turn around fast - we’d have him lined up for some time in January imo.

I think we considered Alonso a year and a half ago. But we also considered Amorim, which is worrying.

I would prefer someone knowing the league and its uniqueness, avoiding the ‘child illnesses’ that newcomers often display.

Alonso having played here and for us covers for that, so I would be open to him, although he does not have the amount of experience I would have wanted from a manager.

Neither Iraola nor Glasner excite me that much. I am not sure they can be top tier.
Managing Liverpool is quite a step up, as Slot is also experiencing.
At the time, I think we were concerned about having the players for a 3-5-2 system. I think our summer recruitment actually helped in that regard short of at least 2 more CBs. Frimpong, Kerkez, Robbo and Bradley could all play as wingbacks. Wirtz, Isak, Ekitike all would work well.

So, I would be much more comfortable with Alonso now than then.

I don’t reply to insults, any question or point raised is null and void for me.

If Slot left and Ange was given the job, I’m certain he’d have us playing a hell of lot better than we are right now.
I got this off your insta. That settee has seen better days
