Did Everton fans hate on Rooney whenever they played United?

Unfortunately for Sterling he was badly advised teenager when he hammered his way out of the club. He should never have used that BBC interview they way he did as a vehicle to leave the club. It worked, but now he will forever be a pantomime villan in LFC eyes. He might say if he hadn't used that brute tactic, then Liverpool might not have sold him and maybe he wouldn't have developed the way he has. I don't know about that... As bad as we were we were still a competitive top flight club that recently finished 2nd in the league, he still would have developed well enough to have earned 100k+ wages soon enough.

As for Liverpool, people laughed at Manchester United when they paid a large weekly wage to teenager Wayne Rooney but they were ahead of the curve...

Raheem Sterling was essentially our Jordan Sancho when he was with us. Reports suggest Sancho earns upto 200k with Dortmund, whereas we undervalued Sterling at the time as he was only on 40k a week. City saw an opportunity and offered his value and got their man.

We can be upset about the way Sterling left (which was really bad) but Liverpool can only blame themselves for him leaving....even if we couldn't afford to match the 150k basic wage that City offered at the very least we should have 'played the game' and offered him more than 40k. Liverpool misjudged the situation, he was a key Liverpool player in a team that finished 2nd in the league and England international, but he wasn't Liverpool through and through like Gerrard or Trent and then 'add to that stew' a blood thirsty agent it's a recipe for leaving.

It's only now since Klopp has been in charge that it feels Liverpool have started to pay their players better value contracts for the star players, I believe in the last two/three years pretty much the entire team have had contract renewals. At the time, we were too slow with Raheem and we have to accept it.

I don't think this is actually correct. We offered him stupid money at the time, like 100k in 2014 just before he went, and his money grabbing agent said no (Aidy 'twat' Ward). So off he went to city for purely footballing reasons on more money. He's now trying to pull the same trick on them, wanting more money than everyone else.
You've made it sound like we offered him pennies, we offered him more like being the 3rd best paid player at the club at 20yrs old.

Oh I didn't know that, well what changes things a bit lol... Strange situation with that player he's obviously a great player.

Torres probably also left for money reasons too and he was hated for a while, shirt burning and all...but he never disrespected LFC. You know LFC fans have issues with you when they prefer Michael Owen.

I half admire him for twatting Gomez. I mean at least he cares. It's not all about a zillion quid a year

It’s quite tragic. He’s a superb talent, the best English player by a country mile - and he was ours. He left acrimoniously right before the arrival of Klopp which would have changed the whole outlook for him. Following the laws of a kung-fu flick, the disillusioned former disciple becomes our strongest arch-nemesis.

It’s also tragic that it’s so hard to separate the legitimate criticism of his decisions and character and a vile racist campaign against him driven by the tabloid press. He’s certainly not helping himself by physically attacking the England teammates, but also has cause to feel legitimately aggrieved and we're always walking a fine line between giving him a pass for bad behavior and empowering the bigots.

He's a thick twat who is now paid a fortune and has a few shiny medals in his closet. I doubt he feels even the slightest regret for leaving.

At the time as frustrating as it was you could see why he was going. We'd come off the back of a terrible season and things were looking bleak for 2015-2016. Joining what was a better team on better money looked a good career move. The way it came about was shit, but his agent is as much to blame. I don't think him being on better wages or a longer contract would have gotten us much more than the 50 million paid and he wanted out so I really don't think a whole lot could have done to keep him really.

I don't think the media used to stick the boot in on him due to race. It was because he was/is a petulant little shit with a questionable attitude. We've seen them go after Beckham, Rooney and Gascoigne. Sterling was just the latest one they used to sell stories.

What's equally nauseating now is the whole of the British media falling over themselves to describe him as this sage-like leading voice now in the fight against racism, and some shining light in society.

He's a little rat, like most footballers, and has shown it again this week.

He went about things wrong, but honestly, if another company were going to double my pay, I wouldn't stay around.

Footballer players don't have much loyalty to clubs anymore, but clubs don't have much loyalty to players either.

As a footballer you have a decade or so to really make your mark and earn as much as possible because after that you're old. Not long enough a career to be sentimental.

Now Michael Owen screwed us over three times and kissed the devil's badge. He can fuck off... But Sterling, Torres, etc... I have a hard time blaming them to be honest.

Evertonians hated Rooney for leaving and nobody laughed at the fee or wages United stumped up for Rooney when he left either

Joes was booed ? - I never heard that come through on the TV. I do wonder if the chants were for sterling when the camera focused on him.

Fuck the spoilt child and his agent.

If it werent for Liverpool they’d be no Raheem Sterling.

Guys showed us no respect ever since leaving.

Didnt he say "nobody wants Liverpool to win the league" last year?

Man City fans call him "Raz" on Bluemoon lol
