From the Mirror today - probably bollocks but no smoke without fire and lots of talk of other clubs waiting in the wings, either way it is frustrating the club do not seem to be on top of this from a pr point of view.

Raheem Sterling has NOT been made a new contract offer by Liverpool.
Sterling’s advisors are angry after Brendan Rodgers publicly claimed the 17-year-old would be “very foolish” not to sign a deal with Liverpool.
And they insist that no formal contract was put on the table in either of the two meetings that they had with Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre.
The second meeting with Ayre came this week, but no offer was made.
The Sterling camp were amazed when Liverpool manager Rodgers then went public in what could be seen as attempting to bully the teenager into signing.
Rodgers said on Thursday: “If you are 17 and playing regularly, you would be very foolish not to commit yourself very quickly. If I was Raheem Sterling and his agents, I would look to tie it up very quickly.
“Raheem’s (contract) has been ongoing, really.
"The club and his representatives are in good dialogue and communication and hopefully we will get that resolved very soon, but there is no timescale.”
Sterling’s advisors also insist the England international is not being greedy and has not asked for anywhere near £50,000-a-week.
Rodgers' statement is in danger of backfiring as it has only highlighted the fact that Liverpool have yet to make a formal offer to Sterling, who turns 18 next week.

No probs Rosco - just don't want to come across as an attention seeking knob thats all - when it was being discussed in a previous thread

Rodgers is still interested in signing Arsenal’s Theo Walcott, who is out of contract at the end of the season and is yet to agree new terms. The Reds boss could even be tempted to part with England whizkid Raheem Sterling.
The youngster, who turns 18 next weekend, is currently at the bottom of the Anfield pay scale on £2,500 a week and wants a massive pay hike to sign a new contract. Arsenal are interested in him and Rodgers could ask for Walcott as part of any deal.

most likely bullshit but i get the feeling these negotiations aren't going as well as people think . Guess we'll know more soon when he hits 18 .

Manchester United are considering an astonishing swoop to steal Liverpool contract rebel Raheem Sterling from their greatest rivals, writes the Sunday People.
People Sport understands Sir Alex Ferguson is monitoring Sterling, 18 next Saturday, who could be a long-term replacement for unsettled Nani.
Direct transfer activity between the two clubs has been non-existent for decades but Sterling has so far stalled on agreeing his first major contract, alerting United, Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea.

It is United’s interest which could appeal to the England winger and his advisors. Ferguson has a good record of developing youngsters into world stars and is building a team around England players such as Tom Cleverley, Danny Welbeck, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones.
Adding Sterling to that group has massive appeal for Ferguson although he knows negotiating with Liverpool would be a major obstacle.
Liverpool do not want to sell but are a long way off being able to offer him the chance of Champions League or trophies and boss Brendan Rodgers knows he will face a problem if Sterling decides he wants to go.
The player’s advisors met Anfield managing director Ian Ayre last week but were unimpressed by his offer.
City can outbid anyone, but Sterling’s camp fear he will not be a first-team regular if he moves to the Etihad.

Haha, there is so much bs written about this.

He said himself that we are waiting for his 18th birthday, which is in 6 days.

It's another sign of how crap we've become at PR. Ayre won't say anything until he can play at being manager again by posing next to the player when he does finally sign (like he did with all of those English players he now privately dismisses as 'English crap'). Rodgers, kindly but naively, answers whatever questions Vinny O'Connor asks him and hands Vinny and his mates an excuse for stupid headlines like 'Greedy Raheem' and 'Don't be a fool!' And while all of this goes on, our Communications chief is...er...we don't have one. Pathetic. One quick round of briefings, saying clearly when contract talks would formally begin, how it is all straightforward and how no further comment will be made was all that was needed. And forget TLW silence - that belongs to a simpler age. But instead of nipping the speculation in the bud, Rodgers discusses it every week and Sterling is left to dismiss much of it via twitter and his agents.

you forget though that you're talking about a football club and 90% of people associated with football clubs are simpletons . And that figures increases to 99% with our club . The 1 % is our tea lady .

In an ideal world he should be playing in the reserves until he signs a new contract.

They've tried to protect him from the media and the hype by blocking him from doing any interviews, even post match, until he's at least 18. Fine. But with that comes a duty of care and allowing rumours to emerge that he's greedy, devious, etc etc, when all that's happening is his agent bargaining with the club, is a masterclass in alienating a young player - gag him, talk about him and then leave him to watch as people slag him off. He's entitled to be very pissed off with how it's all been handled.

Is it definitely the case that he's not being greedy and devious?

I don't know what's going on behind the scenes but it's not beyond the realms of possibility that Sterling is playing hardball with his contract. He has after all become one of the first names on the teamsheet.

Outside of footie and knobbing I doubt he knows anything of significance. I'd be amazed if he could negotiate himself around Sainsburys.

By that you mean his advisors rather than Raheem I presume Ken?

I think he will sign, but I do think it is another example of the way Liverpool make things fucking hard for themselves, no one had to say or should have said anything, or expressed an opinion about what is going on as regards the contract.

I would imagine his agent is doing a fine job of that for him. Either way, we only have to look at what happened with Sturridge at City - he was hyped up at their academy for an age and believing the hype as soon as he broke into the first team, he wanted top wages. You don't have to clever to be greedy / ambitious.

Quite right, but when you do work to protect him from the hype you also have to make him realise you're doing it for those reasons rather than because you want to control him - that way can easily end up having the opposite effect on him.

I would bet on this whole situation being hyped up from nothing tbh.
He's 18 the 8th of Dec, if he doesnt sign a new contract soon after that then maybe I'd start to worry.

For now its agent talk but mostly nothing newspaper stories (as usual)

Agreed. We wouldn't cut off our own noses to spite our faces like that, especially not when one of FSG's own guidelines is to look for good players with off-the-field problems and get the best out of them by resolving those problems.
