Following on from a comment from Portly I did not want to hijack the MOM thread with this.
I did not include Suarez in my Top three, but might just go back to edit it, the more I think about it, as I think in that thread anyway, Suarez is being a victim of his own high standards, and we just expect him to do everything and shoulder the vast majority of weight of finding goals.
The ball he put through to Raheem, and some of his other chances, the chip and the long range shot first half were good, he never stops running and harrying , his decision making yesterday was poor a lot of the time, but considering he had a round trip to Bolivia 26hrs on a plane and 13,000 miles, mid-week and playing at high altitude, and got crocked unfairly in the first half. Any other player would have made and excuse, looked completely fucked and certainly not completed 90 minutes, he is a tough little cookie, and I love him, warts and all.

He was clearly fucked second half, he couldn't run properly & according to an experienced paramedic who was sat near me, was suffering a dead leg.

When he couldn't walk properly I thought he'd go off, but he managed to keep running.

He's aces Vlad and deserves a lot more love than he gets on here from some. He played that second half carrying an injury yesterday as well.

The people I know who dislike him say is a cheat & a whine but I don't think I've ever seen a player with a will to win as great as Suarez.
Yes he dives and asks the ref to book opposing players (I know he gets lumps kicked out of him every week), we've never really had a player like that playing for us. I personally hate that side of him & his game, the rolling around on the deck and all that. But you take him as he comes and I am glad he is our player.

You're right Vlad, we expect him to do it all for us and win the game single handed, just like we have done with Gerrard for the last 8/10 years.

Well he had a big hand in the goal. He is frustrating though at times, but I tend to agree, it's almost taken for granted how good he is, everything is channeled through him. I wish a few more players would stand up and be counted, there's too many players hiding in shadows.

I took all this into account when making my MOM list. Some of his skill yesterday despite being fucked was breathtaking. That some people put Jones ahead of him for making saves that I'd expect the Neville Southall of 2012 to save boggles my freaking mind.

I thought Jones did well, it wasn't exactly rudimentary saves, the one on one bailed us out and some of his punches and his ability to not put the ball straight back into the danger zone when making a save was excellent (and a bit refreshing). He gets enough stick on here, we haven't exactly suffered drastically when he has played and if there's anyone in the squad who I wouldn't begrudge a few moments in The Lying Rag, it's him. I do agree re the points about Suarez though, he deserved to be up there, in hindsight, it just gets a bit boring giving it to the same players every week.

Great post VQ. I didn't see the game but after reading the match thread it seemed like Suarez was behind everything we created and it's pretty much how it's been since he joined.
He's extremely important to us and to some degree he's still carrying us as well.

By contrast, Gerrard is flailing badly and no longer looks capable of carrying us in any shape of form. He paled yesterday in comparison to some of his team mates.

Of course, it's the derby next though, so..

I didn't get to see the match yesterday as I was working up a mountain somewhere. The ball he played for Sterling's goal was great. Suarez is a marvelous player but can be very frustrating to watch at times! He overcooks it a bit, if he was a guitar player he would be Jimi Hendrix, why play one note when you can play ten with the guitar behind your head?

He's a fantastic player and he was great yesterday.
Despite returning late thursday night, one session on friday and then the game on saturday.
He looked like he really felt the challenge before half time and he couldnt run properly in the 2nd half.

He's a fighter and I'm extremely happy that he plays for us.

Gerrard always look knackered when he has played for England midweek

I place Suarez more influential than Gerrard and more exciting to watch than most in the PL. Frustrating finisher no doubt but he is the best we have.

He's looked like this for a while now though Hansern, I know it's inevitable and he's still a class act but still, he's well short of what he once was and looks less effective than some of his team mates at times, which is good in some respects that we're not relying on him solely anymore, but I wish it was more because of the quality of those around him than because his own ability has waned.

It's bitter-sweet to watch him in this team because although he's so bright and crafty and often inspired, you know he'd be so much better in a great team. He's doing the work of about three players here, and he's distracting himself from his natural game.

I agree with everything Vlad said in his opening post (of course 😉).

Suarez' one flaw is his love of theatre. Thus, when he is fouled, he falls over in a dramatic way that makes it look like a dive. (OK he has been known to really dive on occasions). When he tries to score, the goal has to be a dramatically brilliant one instead of just sticking the ball in the back of the net, which is why he misses so many chances. If Rodgers could cure Suarez of the theatricality we could have one of the world's greatest players on our hands,.

It's not just his skill... If all our players had his desire to win we'd be top of the league.

Agreed, that said, it's massively frustrating watching us, knowing that a true goalscorer would make a huge difference to how we're playing and the results we're getting.

I think if he had a genuinely good striker playing alongside him he'd have to compete more for goals, as well as have better options ('Better'? He'd finally have options!) for assists, and his game (and mind) would sharpen up accordingly. When he gets the ball now there's nearly always the feeling he's looked up, seen who else is around and then concluded he might as well put his head back down and try to do it all himself. He's like the director of a play who realises the cast is crap and starts taking over all the roles himself.

Well, maybe it has, I think some people would appreciate his talents a whole lot more if we had someone there to finish off the chances and take the burden off him.

Well he hasn't got control of the transfer budget. Maybe he should. I don't think he could have fucked it up much worse than everything that's happened since he arrived, but as is, him not having a suitable strike partner isn't his fault.

If/When we get the finisher everyone knows we need, how will it affect Suarez? Rodgers clearly likes Suarez to play through the middle, pitting Morgan or Borini out wide to accomodate him. He also will stick with his 4-3-3 formation, so how will he fit Suarez and Mr Finisher together?

Quite, I'm not suggesting it is, I just hate seeing all of his workrate and magic come to nothing.

If we look at BRs track record, perhaps he'll buy David Villa in January and immediately loan him out to Stoke.
