Suarez an appreciation

He played some of his best football on the left for Ajax and Uruguay.
The most important thing is getting a striker that can play anywhere in a front three. Having a front three that changes positions all the time is a nightmare for the opposition.

Now we have Suso and Sterling who arent quite there yet.

I say the most important thing, obviously the most important thing is signing a player who knows how to score goal, has scored a lot of goals and WILL score goals.

I think if he had a genuinely good striker playing alongside him he'd have to compete more for goals, as well as have better options ('Better'? He'd finally have options!) for assists, and his game (and mind) would sharpen up accordingly. When he gets the ball now there's nearly always the feeling he's looked up, seen who else is around and then concluded he might as well put his head back down and try to do it all himself. He's like the director of a play who realises the cast is crap and starts taking over all the roles himself.

That sounds all too familiar unfortunately. I think you're right though.

I was thinking during the game yesterday that although he missed some easy chances and made some wrong decisions he was still our best player by a mile. He is our man of the match almost every time he starts a game.

I guess most clubs with a star player have the same problem, Barca with Messi, Real with Ronaldo for example, but with us the gap between him and the rest is too great at the moment.

And as for how good he actually is... if he could sort out his finishing he'd be indisputably in the top 5 players in the world. I'm struggling to think of more than a handful of players that create so many opportunities singlehandedly in a game.

Great thread! I love Luis and it's so good reading an all positive thread about him! 🙂

The owners, manager, players, fans should do whatever it takes to keep this lad at Anfield for many more years to come as he's clearly our best player and our only world class player at the moment.

If/When we get the finisher everyone knows we need, how will it affect Suarez? Rodgers clearly likes Suarez to play through the middle, pitting Morgan or Borini out wide to accomodate him. He also will stick with his 4-3-3 formation, so how will he fit Suarez and Mr Finisher together?

Maybe Suarez gets played in the middle because, iffy though Suarez' finishing is at times, Rodgers reckons he's still a better option there (at the moment anyway) than either of the other two. If we fetch a decent striker in next January (and surely we have to) things may well change.

Overall, Suarez is a superb player and clearly a nightmare to play against. As someone once said, I'd far sooner have him inside the tent pissing out than the other way round.

he is fantastic. What a nightmare for defenders to come up against him. He take them out runinng, and he challenges them on the tiniest of areas. Sometimes he fails, but hey... he goes for the marginal solutions all the time, and he is basically carrying our attack alone.
