Sunlit Uplands

Stuff not getting in to NI from the mainland because it doesn’t have the right paperwork.

These are things destined for supermarket shelves.

That’ll be the customs barrier that Boris said would never exist.

This is happening under capitalism you lunatic.

Capitalist transaction: private citizen buys their food from a private company

Socialist transaction: private citizen gives their money to the government, it gives their money to a private company, said company then provides the food, some money may or may not have been misplaced along the way.

Also at least these sorts of stories aren't being censored or fact checked by amazon web services. Yet.

Socialist transaction would have the authorities hand out the food instead of involving a private company, you wingnut.

You are trying to label Tory cronyism as Socialism by stripping it down to it's most basic description.

It is a private company who have fucked this over by greed and bad practice, you'd have a slightly more valid point if it was a charity, or a foodbank who had been given the contract.

Is the box on the right so empty because all the stuff on the left is still stuck at the border awaiting customs clearance?

Your definitions would be better described as 'capitalism' and 'crony capitalism'. Indeed, the cronyism within government is a product of capitalism.

Socialism involves the workers owning the means of production, so all this talk of private companies shows that you don't have the first idea about what socialism is.

Tory cronyism isn't a useful label, and socialism is an incorrect and misleading label. To understand why that food parcel was a joke, you do need to strip it down to the transactions. A private company providing goods to it's consumers could never in a million years get away with that. The reason is because their revenues depend upon the consumer freely choosing to purchase their product. That system is why the world has come such a long way.

When you introduce the middle government transactor, that freedom is eliminated. The private company couldn't give a shit what the consumer gets, because their revenues have nothing to do with what they want or need. This type of system is going to be the end of us all.

No, you have an ideological definition of socialism and capitalism. In the world the only thing that links people together are their financial transactions. Anybody can own anything they want, it makes no difference unless and until a transaction occurs. I could own the moon. Well, so what?

I'm beginning to think that Dantes might not be the smartest person on this board.

Now that my place as the smartest person in the universe is all but confirmed, let me assist your understanding. You would never entertain the possibility of giving up your vote to me, even though I'm smarter than you are, and there is no logical reason you should not hand your vote over for me to decide it in my greater wisdom, you just won't do it, because you know it's absolutely wrong. You've been indoctrinated to believe it's a fatal mistake to do away with democracy. It is the same thing with your £20 note. Giving up your right to spend it, and handing that choice to the government is even more wrong. Far more wrong. With more devastating consequences. But because of your ideological beliefs, you've never been taught to believe this is wrong, and you don't see it as being wrong like you do with your vote.

If you applied a useful model to the above situations, like the one I provided for you with capitalist and socialist transactions, then you can explain which things are wrong and which things are right based on the model. You no longer need to rely upon a silly ideological definition of capitalism and socialism, and then get into semantic arguments with dantes over it.

I think in his own way Dantes is suggesting that Government’s should defund the police and military while virtue signalling gender neutrality manifested as pure consumerism.

I'm not suggesting that. I know a better way to solve the food parcel problem, as well as all private government contractor cronyism problems. It's not difficult to figure out. I was trying to give you a model through which you could do so. You don't want to use it. The rest of the public are just virtue signalling their outrage. And the government are just deflecting it by saying the private company should "up their game". Good luck with that.
