Love Balotelli already. Will be a Kop legend and hopefully stay for years.

Did anyone hear his song today sung by the Travelilng Kop? Maaaarioo Fantastico, Maaaarioo Magnifico!

I like that he's listening and changing his game within a week already - granted, it's only marking corners but a) he's tall and b) he's decent in the air (despite his two misses today!) ... This kid is going to prove the Judge wrong.

That was an important aspect of his play today .. how often do we have anyone (outside of corners) that is a decent header of the ball ? Hmmm maybe I shouldn't have said that after today .... however he does present a real threat in the box and we haven't had that since Carroll !

That pisses me off.

He's done nothing to deserve a song yet. Sturridge broke records all over the shop yet waited a full season for a song.

I'm sure BR will appreciate having that flag behind his initials.
NOT
Not this shit again, I'm sure the man who's referred to himself as British on many occasions doesn't have a problem with being referred to as British or against a British flag, despite what other Irish people say.

ESPN excerpts :

Balotelli perhaps should have scored twice with two early free headers, but he mostly had a good and productive game, which reflected the broader range of his talents. If his finishing was not great, his link-up play was high quality, particularly in the case of one delightfully crafted chipped ball to Raheem Sterling.

It was also his interchanging and overlapping with the young English winger that may be the most productive element of this signing. The movement of the duo along with Daniel Sturridge was glorious, bringing back a dynamic rotation that was gloriously frequent last season. Balotelli may have reopened so much debate around his career, but he may have also reopened Liverpool's attack. He departed the pitch after an encouraging hour, with three points on the board for Liverpool.

Such is the power of Super Mario, he managed to convince Sky that he was last out of the tunnel.

No, Sturridge was behind him...OR WAS IT KEIRON GIBBS?!

Also, he was able to hypnotise Niall Quinn into believing that he wore a yellow boot in the first half and, maverick that he is, changed it for a pink one at the outset of the second!

Crazy!!!

Haha, both those points got me, towards the end it almost sounded like Quinn was trying to figure out where the yellow boot had gone.

Get ready to cringe...

Dear Mario,
In this crazy world we live in, someone you've never heard of or will probably never meet, feels, as a Liverpool fan, that its ok to write to you on an internet page to say welcome. But here I am, and there you are, somewhere, preparing for the Spurs game today.

But I'm writing this with real meaning when I say welcome, because you are now at a club that is different, and a club where the fans genuinely care about their team. Now I'm quite sure every fan of any team would say that, but at Liverpool, you're not just a player, you a Liverpool player and that means you're part of our family. You are now one of us, and you are now family (you're welcome round for tea anytime mate).

Welcome to a bond with a set of fans that will not just sing your name, but look out for you, welcome to a ground where the feeling is different, a sense of history, family and warmth, of times shared and where the outside world and press are invited in but never truly part of it, welcome to a place, a sense of place, a culture that sets us apart from the rest of them.

I've read about your upbringing, it must be very odd to have your everyday shared with millions, your history available for analysis and comment by strangers, and then to be called 'crazy' by these people who haven't a clue. They are the crazy folk, they are the ones who think its ok to write about other people as if they are professional pyschologists, mind readers and judges of character. Not you.

Well, welcome to a club that sets apart from that world. Liverpool is a club that does it differently, where the emotions are heartfelt not invented, the flags are fabric not plastic and the noise deafeningly sincere.

Liverpool's great players have all been special, and different and gifted and marvellous to watch, and all of them acknowledge the club has a special place in their hearts. You are brilliant at your job, wonderful to watch, and you arriving here has made a lot of people excited. You have the gift of creating emotion in men's hearts, that's the real meaning of football, and I hope I speak for all Liverpool fans when I say, have the best time of your life here, have a great career and score lots of goals sure, but really, truly, have a great life whilst at our club.

In some ways, Mario, welcome home.

If we keep playing two strikers in a game he'll be playing plenty of games this season, Ballotelli attracts bookings like leaked celeb photos attract hits, & Sturridge has biannual injury layoffs.

We still need another striker imo.

What profile of striker should we be looking at?

An older experienced striker who wouldnt mind sitting on the bench or a youngster chomping at the bit? I don't think the team can handle a 3rd Alpha male striker.

Eto'o would have have been perfect on a one year deal, given we have Origi coming in next season.

Problem is will Brendan only play one up top when Mario is out just as he has this season against city and saints

Not if we carry on performing poorly he won't.

He may have stumbled across the diamond by accident, but it works so well that he won't cut off his nose to spite his face.

I don't think we need another striker.

We have three. That's enough given that we are more than happy playing 1 up top when it suits.

Mario vs Spurs

First touch thorough out is terrific
Clearly worked extremely hard. Look at all the different areas of the pitch he's in the highlight real.
Excellent strength.
Signs he can do the one touch passing required to fit in with our attacks.
Encouraging link up play with Sturridge.
Should have had at least 2, but his finishing isn't a concern of mine.

Perhaps you & Ryan are right.

I just worry, cos I don't think we look anywhere near as effective all over the pitch when we're not playing the diamond formation.
