Is this team the best team ever to lose a champions league final?
Dida
Maldini
Stam
Nesta
Cafu
Seedorf
Gattuso
Pirlo
Kaka
Shevchenko
Crespo

Thats a fucking ridiculous team?!

How did a team with Traore, Smicer, Baros and Dudek in ever EVER beat that team.

The juventus team we beat in the quarters that year was ridiculously good.

Reminds us all how good a manager Rafa was/is.

There will have been better teams because more often than not there are 2 good teams in the final.

It was certainly the highpoint of Benitez's time with us, and in fairness not many managers would have achieved a cup run like that CL campaign that year

Crazy isn't it

First half they ran rings around us. we had no answer to their class and craft.

That early goal by Gerrard second half just knocked them out of their stride and once Vladi fired in the second you knew it was game on.

To be fair we also had some top players of our own - Carragher, Hyppia, Hamann, Alonso and Gerrard but i hear what you're saying mate, they really should have whipped the floor with us and not just in the first half.

Traore? He cost us 2 goals didn't he?
[/quote]

He was class from the second half onwards (abysmal in the first)

This

I didn't think we stood a chance against them, particularly after Carson's balls up in the first leg.

Chelsea were also quite good

I remember going to the pub that famous night and although I knew who played for Milan, when I saw them all on the TV screen in the line-up I shit a brick. Literally. I went to the toilet though and took it out of my cacks and just left it on the ground under the sinks. No one saw.

The italian league hasn't quite recovered from the match fixing scandal that followed. I'm not even sure if you could consider it the third best league any more.

We should have never lost to AC Milan in the final two years after that. It was an ordinary team that was filled with great players who were quite past their best...ah well...

2007 ticked me off. Rafa held back, kept the shackles on. He got it badly wrong that night. Don't get me started on Harry Kewell strolling around..

To be fair, we had Jermaine Pennant in the starting lineup

Bolo Zenden really helping to dismiss the stereotype that white boyz can't dance!

HAHAHAHAHA

I think the two games against Chelsea and Arsenal were also particularly good (in 2007) and it was harsh for us and Arsenal to go out as between the three of us we'd provided two excellent ties that were full of goals.

Ryan's right about Juve though, they were excellent that season and it was a big scalp for us at the time.
